EQ settings for string distinction...

I have a Classic 30 and was wondering if anyone could suggest some EQ settings that will allow me to really hear each string ring individually. Or just give me some advice on how to prevent them from blending together too much.

sorry, cant give explicit help on that amp

tweaking with pole piece height has been the only thing that has given me a satisfactory element of string separation ... i am not sure that tweaking amp settings will have as dramatic an effect while maintaining satisfactory tone ... the pickup's clarity itself will also have a large part in this equation

I don't understand what you mean by "blending"

Perhaps you are using too much gain? I don't know which type of sound you are reffering to (overdrive/clean).

Also, +1 on t4d's comment about pole pieces + pups.

Scooping at 300-350 hz will do that...

Thats the frequency range you'd want to scoop/cut.

I don't understand that. How do I know that I'm cutting that frequency range? I dont have an EQ pedal.

I believe he's wondering how that will relate to the amp's Bass/Mid/Treble controls, as he doesn't have a multi-band EQ in front of him.

Ahh ok!! I dont think you have a way of doing that without the extra tonal controls like an outboard EQ of some sort. Usually strings sound seperation & tone clarity comes from the amp's preamp and poweramp section.

Or your other choice is having the amp modded by a pro like Voodoo Amps, but then your probebly gonna spend as much if not more then what the amp cost you.

i could be wrong, but doesnt the Classic 30 have EL84s in there? if so, then that might be a bit part of the problem as that tube doesnt have alot of headroom and they tend to breakin/distor alot faster when driven and get hot, that distortion might be causing some of the things your talking about. Ofcourse preamp tubes also play parts in this.
