Hi Guys
apologies if this has been discussed already but I did a search and couldn't find anything.
I read an interview with Eric recently and he mentions he's now using sd pups. Does anyone know which model he uses?
Thanks

Yes, there's no threads on it but here ya go:

He seems to have his own signature pickups. The community called it the "Trouble" set since they are based off his older sound from the Crystal Vision album but they are only available at certain shops or you can order them directly to the custom shop.

7.3k - Neck (Alnico 4)

7.5k - Middle (Alnico 4)

7.8k - Bridge (Alnico 4)

Very unique feeling, very unique tones. Not your typical strat set (doesn't sound or feel like your traditional SRV type set). Way less treble than your typical glassy strat set, bass and mids focused. Feels like it's pretty flat in EQ compared to other strat sets. Smooth sounding and smooth/fat feeling. You can feel the weight of the notes - although I wonder how much of that is due to the Vegatrem bridge.

I've been playing them on a Fender 75th Strat with a vegatrem, hyper-glossed Maple neck, 1958 historical wiring from a vintage strat, Alloy nut, anodized gold pickguard and locking tuners, Silver Slinky strings. All those things probably make a good bit of difference.

I'm glad I got a hold of a set. I haven't taken them out since they've been installed - even though sometimes I want to experiment with another set, they somehow manage to stay in that particular guitar lol

I do recommend them if you are looking for something unique, different or refreshing in the strat sound world.

The OP hasn't logged in for 13 years, but maybe if someone searches for these someday the extra info might help.

The video sounded pretty scooped snappy and bright to me, so I'm surprised you found them to have way less treble and flat in EQ. I could agree that the modifications to your strat, both using an old wiring harness with newer atypical hardware could change quite a lot.

Another thing is that it's hard to gauge what wiring anyone uses these days. I would guess Eric Gales probably has his own desired, custom wiring going on under the hood, on top of the pickups and the signature amp but I have a feeling that his signature guitar has different pickups anyway since his signature guitar and amp came almost 2 years before the pickups.
