Ernie Ball Cobalts

Just wondering if anyone had tried the new Ernie Ball Cobalt strings?

I'm a strong believer in their gauge 10 regulars, i'd imagine these cobalts to be perhaps thicker, or more resistant when bending.

Re: Ernie Ball Cobalts

i can't wait to try a set myself... i've heard they tend to last and stay bright longer... but i've heard string companies make the same sales pitches before...

But the cool part of these is Cobalt is extremely magnetic so they should work well in the pick up's feild... makes me kind of wonder if they will be more prone to adding ghosts notes and overtones on strats with higher pick up adjustments...

the strings should not be any thicker then a normal string set... it's just a different metal alloy not a coating

Re: Ernie Ball Cobalts

I have been looking for them and they aren't out yet...End of this month or early March..

Re: Ernie Ball Cobalts

I have been considering trying some EB's so I will put these on my list to pick up when they are available. Thanx alot.

They will be about $10 a pack here in the states when they do arrive...Just want to try a pack and see,but I'm very happy with their Rock And Roll Pure Nickel strings...The cobolt will be strings tonally in the complete opposite direction... ;o)

Re: Ernie Ball Cobalts

They are out, they're just back ordered to all hell, a friend of mine got his in the mail the other day. He said as of yet, they're not worth the $10, they feel and play just like the regular sets. He said he'd probably change his tune if they last longer however.

Re: Ernie Ball Cobalts

Hope it is going against the ever spreading trend with rubbery strings, with sorry excuses for steelcores....
When my old 250's runs out...I am screwed then....
Hmm should try these buggers....I like the D'Addario XL Prosteel strings....but they eat up frets like a mother.....
But the feel and volume plus raw power is great!

So what type of signature are you thinking these new cobalts will give you?

Just curious, but I can surely live without em! ;o) They are supposed to feel "buttery"...more harmonic content, clearer notes....more powerful sounding..If they last longer and don't eat up my frets,I'm all over them..

Watch the Steve Morse,Pettrucci videos on YouTube..

Re: Ernie Ball Cobalts

I think I am going to try out a set. What do you have to lose?

Re: Ernie Ball Cobalts

Hasn't every new string in history been marketed exactly the same way?

Can't answer that one? ;o)

I Like inexpensive, consistent, and good tone....D Addario XLs and the EB Pure Nickel have been doing this for me..The DAdarrios are very hard to beat and thats what I use most.

Re: Ernie Ball Cobalts

wouldn't know, but I don't plan on finding out either. Any set of Ernie Ball strings that I've ever had have rusted out or broken with a week or two. Swtiched to Dunlop strings, and if I have to change them once a month its bad. Plus Dunlops way cheaper than Ernie Ball.

Whatever works for you.....works! I'll try them just cause I can! ;o)
