Ernie Ball Cobalts

Re: Ernie Ball Cobalts

We all know how the string thing goes. I like EB, have no probs with rusting, consistency, etc.,and absolutely hate the dunlops which feel and sound a year old right outta the pack to me. And i am one of those guys who is lucky to get 2 weeks out of any brand string before they are dead, or notched to pieces. There is no universal awesome string brand and no universal horrid string brand in my experience. I can hate one brand/type on guitar x and love them on guitar y.

Re: Ernie Ball Cobalts

Hope they work better for you because right now, spending money on something for it to suck is a bad thing.

How would I Know if they suck if I don't try them? ;o) 1 pack of strings isn't going to break the bank for me!

Hands down in my opinion, the most consistent, great sounding and great priced strings, are the D'Addario XLs...Been using these for "alot" of years!

I've tryed them and used them on every single guitar that I own or have owned...Lately I'm also loving the EB Pure Nickel Rock and Roll strings...Got them really cheap and I love em!

Re: Ernie Ball Cobalts

I love the chromes by daddario. I just slapped on a set of pyramid 13's and I can notice a difference from chromes, the pyramids are a bit darker sounding, but they excel at moderate gain with a TS9, amazing harmonics.

I wanted to try the cobalts as I've been messing around with string types and different options (steel flats on a classical are amazing, flat 13's on strat), but I'm glad that I tried the pyramids first. When the cobalts are available at GC in a few months I'll give them a shot because I got blue balls when I saw the back order date.

This is exactly what I mean, john. Tomy ears the dad XL wound strings are muddy as can be, and the high strings sound scratchy/screechy. Doesnt matter if its singles or humbuggies, i dont like the tone. They are very consistent for feel and intonation however.

I have had better luck with the EXP coated versions.

It's funny about our ears and taste huh Jeff? ;o) I use GHS Boomers,GHS Nickel Rockers,EB Pure Nickel,DR Pure Blues and the Tite Fits...DRs are a ripoff these days and something has went sour with their quality? I opened up a brand new pack of the Tite Fits and the 3 unwound strings had rust spots on them! ;o(

With the humidity here in Florida,I pretty much stick to the strings that come in the enviromental plastic sealed packaging...Pretty much GHS,EB,and DAddario do it..

Re: Ernie Ball Cobalts

Dont get me started on the "quality" of DR brand strings. I dont forsee myself ever giving that company another dime.

Simple....I'm no longer wasting my money on the DRs! Another brand that I love and forgot to mention, are the Pyramid strings....I use these on my Gibson SG and they last a longtime, sound great..Pricey,but worth the money!
