ES 345 Varitone

Re: ES 345 Varitone

I had to completely rewire a stereo Vari-tone equipped 355 a few years back.
I still have nightmares!!:scared:
Whatever you do DON'T remove the circuit. It's easier to bypass it if you don't like it.

Cheers,PJ

Thanks for the tip PJ, leaving well alone is getting more tempting by the minute. Hmm..355.....very nice. Got any pictures?

Cheers,

Mike.

Re: ES 345 Varitone how to convert to mono

Re: ES 345 Varitone how to convert to mono

1968 ES 345. Anyone rewired this guitar to mono. I have it jumped at the jack presently but the knobs don't work right because of that. Any schematic. Also are the pick ups really out of phase. If so, why. Finally the guitar has lost output over the years. Anybody else found that to be the case with pickups from 1968. What I really use the varitone switch for is to move it to the second position when switching to rhythm so as to pull some low end out. If I were to re-do the guitar like a 335 what options would I have to obtain that same effect which is a more jangly rhythm sound in position 2? Thanks very much

Re: ES 345 Varitone

Use a compressor before the amp. It will even out your different Varitone levels. Only the tone will alter.
