ESP Vintage Plus strat

I got to play one of these today, and what an unbelievable neck this guitar has. It's a chunky neck, but not as chunky as my older brother's 78 strat which is bordering on baseball bat feel. Nice big frets and a set of 10's and the thing just feels great.

This isn't the LTD version, it's the $1300 version the ESP sells. The one I got to play is a friend's guitar, and he's got the SD mini screamin demon in the bridge with Dimarzio Area's in the middle and neck. Absolutely smoking guitar, probably one of the best strats I've played hands down.

Anyone else checked these out? I know what I'm saving for next!

Re: ESP Vintage Plus strat

I've owned three VPs, and they're absolutely awesome playing and sounding guitars. My one major gripe with them is that the truss rod adjustment nut is at the base of the neck, making setups a nightmare. That style of truss rod is common with strats afaik, but I really wish ESP had extended the "vintage strat with modern tweaks" idea to include a truss rod that could be adjusted without removing the strings, pickguard, and neck.

Sounds like Fender are a bunch of cry babies for telling ESP to NOT build these. I'm pretty sure I read something not long ago that Fender tried to have a patent/trademark thing upheld in the court system so they could go around suing everyone that made Strats or Teles. From what I read, they lost in court, and I'm glad they lost if it means ESP can make these guitars again.

I've been looking at the American Special strat since it was announced in January earlier this year, and thinking pretty seriously about getting one. I tried the 3 single coil Red American Special at GC last week, and I wasn't particularly impressed with the neck. Though I really like the look of the oversized headstock, I'm not sure that's enough to get me to lay out 8 bills for it. This ESP is THE BEST strat I have EVER played. The neck on the Vintage Plus is just unbelievable.

+1

I love mine but with the same gripe although I don't think it's a reason not to get one.
