Ever tried a Weber Z-Matcher?

Re: Ever tried a Weber Z-Matcher?

Yes, and I like mine. It does just what it says, does not change the tone and you would never know it is there.

Re: Ever tried a Weber Z-Matcher?

What impedance do you change to and from? I have a 16-ohm Hot Plate that I'd like to use with my Mesa Single Rec, which has an 8-ohm output impedance. Sent an email to Ted Weber about this, and here's what he wrote back:

"Yes, it will work fine. It will not affect the tone as long as you don't overdrive the Z Matcher and saturate its transformers."

I'm not sure what it takes to saturate the transformers.

I have one and it works great for what I need it for. You can really tell a difference if you dont have the ohms matched in my case. I'm not sure I understand how you want to use it though.

Re: Ever tried a Weber Z-Matcher?

I use it to match various amps and cabs - I do not use the 16 ohm setting though as I do not have an amp or cab that requires it. If you overpower the unit you can load the transformers. I do not know what that takes as I have run 100w heads into it without difficulty - but I did not have the map maxed out either.

Re: Ever tried a Weber Z-Matcher?

To answer the question of how I want to use this unit...

I have a Vox AC30 and a Mesa Single Rec. The Vox has an output impedance of 16Ω, and the Mesa has an output impedance of 8Ω.

I also have a THD Hot Plate of the 16Ω variety, which I use with my Vox. I'd like to be able to use this Hot Plate with my Mesa as well, but the Hot Plate is expecting a 16Ω impedance going into it.

I'm thinking I could place the Z-Matcher between my Mesa (8Ω) and my Hot Plate (16Ω), effectively converting the Mesa from 8Ω to 16Ω before it reaches the Hot Plate.

Does this make sense? Would I be loading the transformers if I do that?

Re: Ever tried a Weber Z-Matcher?

It probably would work , but it may be neater and simpler to just get the Weber Mass. I think they're switchable from 8 to 16 ohm so you could use it with either amp. Or just another 8ohm Hot Plate if thats your preference.
