Evh 5150iii and headphones

Random question. I have the evh 5150iii el34 50w head and I’m very happy with it. For the first time yesterday I used the headphone out into some cheap (60$) headphones and the amp sound really really good. Probably (definitely) better than through my cab. Which is odd because usually the headphone pit is some emulated garbage sound that no one likes right? Every knob is so much more alive and the gain is super tight and responsive. So I guess my real question is; is my cab just a giant piece of garbage?

If I tell you what cab I’m using you’d be certain to just say it’s my cab. It’s a Marshall mx2x12ar with celestion V30s. But I can tell you I’ve had several cabs with this head including the EVH 2x12 that came with the head( I really did not like the sound of this cab, very dull, no gain, and boomy). Yes I have the cab hoooked up while using headphones.

It coukd be how you are percieve the sounds thru the headphones vs the cab also.

Many times, the emulated sound actually sounds really great.
