Proof positive - save yourself $22,000, no one is really going to be able to tell what you're playing anyway.

What's really funny is I think everyone here knows that the players reviews on musiciansfriend are always such crap. They always have positive rateing to them. Look at the ratings of the EVH rep. guitar...then look at how many people have rated. Looks like crap.

Re: EVH guitar - but who's gonna play it?

True, but then of those 393 ratings, how many of those people have actually played one?

My guess is not very many at this stage. In which case, are those ratings a reflection of the quality of the guitar, and are many of them simply a knee-jerk reaction to the price?

I personally am not a fan of this guitar at all. All I'm saying is that the ratings on musicians friend for this guitar mean about as much as the ratings for any other guitar on musicians friend (i.e. not a huge amount)

Just a thought...

Hehe yep it sure was...out 5 or so strats?!?
Sounds about right to me.

I no longer understand the allure of cloning famous guitars like that. I used to think that I'd play better with a better guitar now I know better. ;) (I obviously play better with better effects and amps! :D)

Re: EVH guitar - but who's gonna play it?

Well they got it almost right...the Floyd has a collar trem arm, Edwards old one did not have that;)
But yes...would not use my money on it, as it is made for collectors and other rich people:)

Re: EVH guitar - but who's gonna play it?

Doesn't MusiciansFriend have a 45 day return policy? We should all order one and then send them back before the 45 days, or ever how many days it is, are up.

I wonder how many tears would be shed during the drive to UPS.

Re: EVH guitar - but who's gonna play it?

Did not remember hearing this much BS over the Blackie strat?!?

Different strokes my friend, different strokes. I personally can't see spending that much cash on any guitar, even if the good Lord Himself came down formed a band, rocked out, sold millions of albums, enpregnated hords of groupies, announced the band was breaking up, years later got the band back together and started a reunion tour, and it the mist Fender decided to make a J.C. tribute guitar of his ol'faithful and sell it for a $25,000....I STILL would not want to buy it. JMO. :thumbsdow

No it doesn't, it has the old style bar assembly.

You said was I was about to, that it's made for collectors and rich investors. Many people seem to forget that. Of course I wouldn't pay that much but someone else seeing a return of maybe 3-4 times as much down the road would.

Re: EVH guitar - but who's gonna play it?

I still think you look cooler and more credible when you show up at a gig with a guitar that speak "you". It's better to have a strat that is a total relic of your own playing and an expression of yourself than the one that eddy played. The frankenstrat was a reflection of Eddy. I would rather have a guitar that is a reflection of me.

Agreed. If one is to spend $25,000 on one of these, the chances if it being gigged with are very very small. Like said, it's for collectors, which means that it'll most likely be unplayed. Don't look at these from a player's POV but from an investor's POV.

Re: EVH guitar - but who's gonna play it?

wait until you guys see pic's of my own relic... i've done some pretty crazy mods to this poor thing... now i have a FRO on it... it's missing wood, it was a rear routed body but had a pickguard on it at onetime... it's a real POS after i have messed up mods on it for years... it was my experimental axe that i learned how to do guitar work on.... I ended up messing up the Floyd Routing, i chiped pieces of wood out of it with a knife 15 years ago so i could angle the bridge PU.... not much left of it now but i am putting it together and it will look pretty funky... Maybe EVH will want it for his collection ha ha ha hhah

Re: EVH guitar - but who's gonna play it?

To spend that kind of money on a guitar it had better be an original played by the artist, not a replica, even if it's supposed to be identical to the original.

Still won't make you play or sound like Ed.

to play and sound like Ed is the hard part..... my mind will not let my hands play just like ED.... a few tunes i can get close but i sure don't 100% sound like ED....

Re: EVH guitar - but who's gonna play it?

1. I'm not a collector.
2. Ergo, I don't buy axes I can't play.
3. I don't buy "new" equipment that looks like trash. Especially not without a SIGNIFICANT discount.
4. If I had any intentions of getting a collectable sig axe, I MIGHT consider the Rik Emmett Dean. But probably not.
5. OTOH, an EJ Strat wouldn't be bad....

Interesting... The one I played at Fender Germany a few months back had the old school bar assembly....
