EVH guitar - but who's gonna play it?

Re: EVH guitar - but who's gonna play it?

Rid, they most likely had them machined for this run. The couple I've had the pleasure of seeing all have the 'old skwool' collars.

Zerberus, whoa... isn't the attention to detail incredible on these things? I truly think that it's just rad what they put into this guitar series. Unbelievably stunning. I bet & think that it's probably 10 fold better than the original.

They have one spinning around in a security case at the guitar center here. The attention to detail is amazing. I starred at it for quiet a while trying to get a feel for what all was involved in making this.

I wonder how many of those who think this guitar can be made for 1k or whatever have actually seen the thing... I predict zero!

This is not specifically referring to this guitar. One other thing I notice about this forum is the lack of respect for luthiery and art involved in making guitars. About anytime someone pulls up a guitar that's a little pricey the first thing everyone complains about is price. No one says, "wow that's a fine piece of luthiery". No one cares about the detail and amount of work involved. No one cares that it may have one of the finest pieces of quilted maple ever hand sanded and shaped. It is art! You're not going to buy a Van Gogh at a flea market, so stop freakin' complaining.

I think it is an amazing job....and good history...but that is just me!
Besides it is cool to give VH some credit, some young and older do not like them much, but they did change the face and sound of rock'nroll!
It is a replica of a historical instrument, and a reminder to quite a few....it is how you play what really matters, nothing fancy or helpful over that guitar, crude and simple, and it changed alot...like it or not, but I think it is plain dumb to degrade that fact.

Absolutely breathtaking, as far as i can tell NOTHING was missed, even the most minute scratch was recreated, as well as wear on the fine tuners, the exact shape and angle of the holes in the period correct quarter, grime and discoloring on the pickups.... Just very literally everything. I as a luthier cannot imagine building a guitar like that (zero tolerance for error because perfect recreation) in a time frame of under a year. Cripes IIRC all of them even weigh within .5 ounces of the original... That´s a LOT of experience (or trial and error) just to be able to choose the right slab of wood and have it come out the right weight...

My speech, your voice. This is actually a good part of the reason why I rarely post in depth anymore, people assuming that just because they can buy parts for 100 bucks off ebay, slap them together and throw the finished product down a staircase that they are now qualified master luthiers with >25 years experience that are using choice woods.

It´s a level of discussion that I simply have learned to avoid so as not to feel even more disdain for the general guitar buying public ;)

Re: EVH guitar - but who's gonna play it?

i think musicians complain more about the costs of great axes more so because most of us are broke! i'm sure if we had the means we all would have finer pieces out there of guitars and amps....

It's weird... i tell people that it cost me $300 in labour 12 years ago to have a great builder put together a Warmoth for me.. most say why didn't you save the bucks and put it together yourself.... That was one of the best $300 i ever spent... it plays like a dream!!!! I have yet to dress the frets as i don't want to mess with the feel.... i'll take it back to the same guy when it's time!!!

I'm sure if you had an axe made from lumber by the same guy, done from the ground up with a lot of detail done by the same builder i bet it would be killer!!!!! Never mind just a Warmoth build... but this guys Acoustics start at $7000 so it is costly... but i'm sure worth it
