Re: EVH is everywhere now, you cannot escape!
I don't understand people who level 'sellout' claims on someone like EVH. it's not like he or his band have spent even part of their career engaging in anti-capitalist or anti consumerist rhetoric. He's pre-punk rock, the kind of rock musician generation that never questioned the corporate influence on their success (until maybe MTV stopped playing them). It's not weird to me at all that he's marketing as much stuff as he can. Especially seeing as album sales aren't what they were and a chunk of people still really care what he uses.
A friend who used to run a guitar store put it well: he said that he doesn't play like Eddie or listen to the music, but he's always interested to see what he's thought up and is using. Ed's very much the mad genius inventor of his generation of guitarists. In fact, the only guy I can think of that would come close in terms of gear innovation would be Tom Scholz, and his influence is significantly smaller, especially today.
