SpAce is the Place

The middle pickup can be a pain sometimes but that’s Rock n Roll folks

I think it is more in people's heads than anything. If I don't think about the middle pickup I forget it its there. My 3 pickup Paul plays like every other Paul I have.

its not like i cant make it work but i totally hit it, you can see the marks all over the ring and low side of the bobbins.

My problem with three pickup Gibsons is the options that you get. With that pickup orientation, I would want the switch to go: 1) bridge, 2) middle, 3) neck. I don't much use in between positions, and without special wiring, you can't get the middle pickup alone...and even then, the special wiring that allows it is usually a bit cumbersome, i.e. using a volume knob to get it. So, great, it's got three pickups...but I can't really use them all the way I'd want to.

I love to play them because of the sound.

You play leads on the bridge only and switch to the middle+bridge for a thick and darker rhythm sound. It's a way cooler tone that Bridge + Neck.

to each their own, but i like the middle selection on a normal lp a lot. tons of variety of tones by adjusting knobs

You can still have both lol

the neck tone knob is now the middle volume that can be rolled in (or out) as you like.

That is where I live a lot. On the LP Lite I put in a push-pull phase so I can get a lot of variety in the middle.

I like bridge / neck for clean. Bridge / Middle is for distortion. But again - that's me...

The 3 pickup LP I tried just had an 'always on' middle pickup with its own volume. You can turn it down and it was like a normal LP. So, 3 volumes, 1 tone.

How is it wired? Seems like parallel would drop output, and series would mute at 0

That's my preferred wiring for that config, and the more versatile, I agree. But again - I love the standard wiring too for pure on-the-fly speed.
