OK- I'm an idiot. I already have an MXR Phase 90 that I did the R28 resistor mod to, as well as a Boss Flanger... after seeing EVH in concert the other night, I was tempted to buy the MXR EVH Phase 90 and MXR EVH Flanger...
My immediate impressions? It's like night and day. These are the best sounding phasers and flangers I've ever played, they're not just a gimic with EVH's name and paint job. The EVH Phase 90 really helps to give that slight phase sound heard through EVH's solos. The script button doesn't seem to do much, but the pedal IS true bypass, a huge improvement over the original.Cleaner, less distortion than the stock Phase 90 or modded Phase 90.
The Flanger is alot warmer and natural than the Boss. The "EVH" button is supposed to pull up the Unchained settings... What it pulls up is a great tone, though I still have to practice to really get the timing and everything on unchained down. Take the EVH button off and it's just a great sounding box, capable of alot more than the BOSS and alot nicer sounding
Between my Ernie Ball Music Man Axis, the EVH Phase 90 and EVH Flanger, into a Carvin V3, I'm getting VERY close to EVH's tone. All I need now is a goot delat since my Boss DD-3 is too sterile
