Cool, listen the best advice i could ever give is that if you have a guitar that you love and want the perfect p'u for it,then definitely go the extra mile and order a custom shop duncan.
You may go through 2-5 models or MORE before you find THEE pu for your guitar if you just randomly try models like i did.
I got lucky and didn't have to go CS and only because the p'u i wanted was already designed for someone.(screamin demon)
But i had to go through many different duncan's to find that out.
If i would have just went with a CS p'u i would have saved a lot of money, time and effort.:eyecrazy:
$150 for a p'u is not a lot when it saves you in the long run.:naughty:

no, its nothing like that. see, I have a collection of almost 30 guitars, and every now and then I buy a new guitar. well, I have them build for me. and depending on the theme, I want pickups to match. so I don't need 'the perfect pickup'. just a pickup that will do something that will suit the guitar ;) like my current project: a vintage vibed guitar with modern appointments, so I need pickups with a vintage vibe to them, but they should be able to do some more modern stuff too. like Billy Gibbons; he uses really just one pickup, the pearly gates, for his older, vintage stuff yet he can also do his newer stuff which is really heavier than his older music.

Maybe he's nocturnal. When we all go to sleep, he'll come out and tear this thread up!

Re: evh pickup, wolfgang pickup, 78... can't make heads or tails out of it!

It sounds like you should try a Screamin' Demon, tight, bright, scooped mids....

Re: evh pickup, wolfgang pickup, 78... can't make heads or tails out of it!

Fender says the Wolfgang pups use Alnico V. I believe them.

Re: evh pickup, wolfgang pickup, 78... can't make heads or tails out of it!

I tried the screaming demon once, but I didn't like it that much. I believe I found it to be too nice, not nasty or dirty enough,and... Too warm. I have a fullshred/distortion-neck model hybrid in that guitar, and that's much better. Same guitar that had the custom,by the way. I only have to swap out the alnico8 for an a5 in the neck, cause its a bit too warm. Perhaps uoa5,haha.

Re: evh pickup, wolfgang pickup, 78... can't make heads or tails out of it!

Well the ones i heard were not generic at all but i also dont feel they are worth the custom shop price they are asking for these($160 a pup!:eyecrazy:)
If i am spending that MJ gets a call from me then!:naughty:
MJ is the way to go.
I had MJ rewind a PG and a Alnico II to evh specs and it was half the price, +
they sounded Great. I had her also wind a evh - 78 with a degaused ... 20 - 25 gauss A2 and it sounded great. A little smush, but not overly, Lows and Low Mids are Great.. No upper Mid harshness of the JB or 59 Bridge pups.
It really depends on how tight the Lows are and how brite the Highs are in the guitar it may go in. I had a JB in a 'pseudo korina' Epi V and it was perfect, due to the light spongy wood of that axe.

yep 16 for the neck one and 14K for the bridge, the same goes for the peavey version.
keep in mind that resistance is not always going to determine the final output of the pu, what wire is used is a big factor as well as magnet type.
for example the steve special by dimarzio is a 17K pu but it is not
as hot as the lower resistance 14K super d.
I learned the hard way to not use just resistance as a guide when choosing pu's.

Does EVH use a sustainer in the neck?, 'cause that could be the reason, I think you need at least 14k for the sustainer to work properly.
