EVH with a single coil?

Are you ready for a challenge!

Suppose EVH showed up at a show without his guitars.
He came to see You rock out with your stratocaters! Someone dragged him to see you play

You have your guitar tech truck with you filled with SSS stratocasters. And you only had Seymour Duncan true single coils! no JBJr, no lil 59, not hot rail cool rail. No humbuckers.

But you had all the SD true single coils available. All the SSL's, APS-1, TwangBangers, SSL-52.

What would you make up for EVH to play so that I could still sound somewhat like EVH?

What do you do? Do you want to see what he would do with a strat in his hands?

i am confused on what your saying but i can hear some EVH sound from the twangbanger, through an El34 amp

EVH would still sound like EVH. His tone has varied so much over the years that it wouldn't make much of a difference. Led Zep and ZZ Top recorded with Telecasters and made them sound like Les Pauls. Just EQ the amp right with more mids and add a boost

I'd say some Telecaster pickup. I've heard it done before.

How would EVH sound with a Stratocaster with true single coils?

ok, i watched my old VHS of Live Without A Net. I want him/EVH to be able to play my JV strat with 3 Single coils and sound good. Rich harmonics, hot tone.

The hot Tex Mex in the bridge is pretty hot but I want better.
Will the Texas Hot Custom Bridge that I plan to put in it produce rich ringing harmonics? High voltage classic rock tone?

I guess I'm just dreaming out loud at the moment.

The Twangbanger first, and next to that the Antiquity Custom Bridge.

The Quarter Pounder is a possibility but that may be a little over the top even for him, since he generally doesn't use high-output buckers. Maybe if you took about 3,500 turns off a QP and dropped the DC resistance to about 10k.

I knew the Twangbanger would be one of the 1st to be mentioned, however, I've been expecting someone to say SSL-5 or 6, and/or Luke Duke's APS-1's.

What can I say, I become a bigger fan of them every time I play my strat. Of course I think I'm the ONLY one that uses the APS-2 in the bridge.

I love the A2P line! I'm like Curly and waiting for a 10K version of the A2P.

but even if it is, great idea. i noticed the more mids i boost the closer my stock fender am strat bridge single coil sounds to Ed's early tone

here Todd, i threw together a quick clip in about 15 minutes, i tried to tune in a good EVH sound, but nothing sounded quite right, so i just played in some overdriven tones that i already had dialed in....but you can imagine it would do pretty well for EVH stuff either way

sorry for any sloppiness, i didnt even bother to take the time to tune up! LOL

My connection at home is too slow to listen to your clip. I'll check it our tomorrow at work! I can't wait to hear it.

Even at work with the T-1 connection it was buffering for a long time, more than 2 minutes.

My JV bridge pickup would do the EVH if I had a little better OD with my amp. I'm sure the twang banger would really be able to handle it as MattPete's clip and I am sure flank's clip demonstrates.
