EVH Wolfgang Custom

Re: EVH Wolfgang Custom

I always figured Ed was a closet LP fan.

Re: EVH Wolfgang Custom

Those do look pretty nice. I wonder if they sound more Les Paul-ish or still like a Wolfgang.

Definitely Les Paulish because of the mahogany body and stoptail bridge AND 24.75" scale length. The pickups are kind of PAFish too. I'm in love with that guitar.

Re: EVH Wolfgang Custom

I dig it, but I'm not so sure about the fine tuners, my palm is always resting back there. I sure would like to try one out, only way to know.

Ok, that's what I thought. The only thing keeping me from being sure was that I thought the pickups were the same as the Wolfgang.

They are the same as the Wolfgang as far as I know. If you're reffering to the Peavey Wolfgang then you're comparing apples and oranges. EVH Gear Wolfgangs sound to me like a boutique Les Paul humbucker, way better than Peavey Wolfgangs. I doubt the pickups should be a concern of yours since that's one of the main selling points of the wolfgangs anyway.

I have tried EVH Wolfgangs in basswood and alder and they work amazingly well in both. I imagine that they would be great in mahogany.

Re: EVH Wolfgang Custom

That looks really nice.

The only thing that concerns me is the neck.

They don't tell you what the carve is like. I want depth measurements at the 1st and 12th fret!

Also... the dual graphite stabilizing rods are a little worrisome as well... I've yet to play a guitar that used them that I didn't think sounded brittle or stiff.

Re: EVH Wolfgang Custom

The floyd on that doesn't look quite right . . .

:P

Seriously though . . . I'm not sure why you wouldn't just pick up a Les Paul instead. Are they cheaper at least?

Oh no, I wasn't comparing it to the Peavey's, but to me the Wolfgang PU's are high output and not overly PAF-ish sounding. Again, that's just what I hear. I agree that the new Wolfgangs are better than the Peaveys.

Somebody might try both and prefer the EVH. I'm sure I would. I've played plenty of Les Pauls, including a 1960 burst owned by a former boss. I like them OK, but when I tried a USA Wolfgang, the pickups struck me as amazing, almost transparent. I've never cared for modern Gibson humbuckers. But Wolfie pups in a Les Paul type guitar would rule! Next time I'm in Wichita, I'll have to see if GC has one.

...the benefits of a Les Paul (short scale, stoptail, mahogany) but a little smaller and lighter, and with a neck pocket that's more accessible to the higher frets. The quality that EVH Gear puts out is fantastic. If someone were to argue the quality of EVH Gear over Gibson, I probably wouldn't get involved in arguing against it.

My EVH Wolfgang Std. was one of the best guitars I ever owned. I sorely regret trading it and would gladly give up my Les Paul for one.

Re: EVH Wolfgang Custom

the fine tuners on the tail piece is brilliant!!!

Re: EVH Wolfgang Custom

1 5/8" nut width and vintage frets...count me out.

I was psyched when I saw pics, sad when I read specs.

I have a tailpiece on my Burny LP that has the fine tuners (I think its made by Schaller) and it works great.

The small frets are the biggest thing that keeps me from even looking at these
