EVH Wolfgang pickup - how to recognize neck and bridge?

Hi!

This is my first post here and I'd like to say hello to all of You guys :)

I have two pickups taken from Peavey Wolfgang guitar. There is no info which is neck and which is bridge. One pup's resistance is ~13k and another's is ~16k. Can You help me in that matter?

Also - what do You think about those pickups in Les Paul Custom? I play rock/metal tunes a'la Dio/late Sabbath using Bogner Ecstasy 101B.

Thank You in advance.

Regards, Andy

^^^ Yup!!

Nice amp, btw. ;) I have one myself.

i'm not familiar with a LP Custom's stock pickups, can't help with that one. Perhaps another can...

Re: EVH Wolfgang pickup - how to recognize neck and bridge?

The stock pickups in a LP custom are PAF type pickups. The wolfgang pickups should fit the style you're looking for

Re: EVH Wolfgang pickup - how to recognize neck and bridge?

Thanks guys for the replies. I know that usually bridge pickup is hotter but I thought I've read somewhere that it is opposite as far as Wolfgangs are concerned. But I may be wrong :).

I felt stock Custom pickups too vintage, I had SH-4 and SH-1 since now but SH-4 squealed as hell, although beeing very harmonically nice.

I've installed Wolfgang pups and here's what I've noticed:
- bridge seem to have rolled back bass extensively, it plays mostly high mids and highs, with nearly no bass - is it common with those pups or mine is broken?
- neck is very muddy sounding - but it is maybe because I've installed it with cream-coloured half placed at the side of bidge and in the Peaveys the cream-coloured half is pointed to the neck

What do You think?

Chris:
How do You like Aldrich pickup? I've tried it and it was too hot to my tastes.

B2D:
Thanks, XTC is indeed cool amp, I like it very much :)

I love the aldrich. I like hotter pickups in the bridge and PAF types in the neck. My favorite part is the upper mids, really make the sound crunchy. I also like the tight bass, because I can turn up the bass on my amp and not have it get flubby.

Yup. Ive had 2 wolfies and the neck pup was the hotter of the 2 on both guitars. Have the leads been cut or desoldered? Ive changed out those pups and keep track on wich was wich by remembering that the bridge leads was longer then the necks leads because it had to reach the switch on the top horn of the guitar. Hope this helps.

Re: EVH Wolfgang pickup - how to recognize neck and bridge?

Thanks again guys for help. I've just have been told that the resistance of Wolfgang pickups should measure 13,85k for bridge and 13k for neck. My neck is 13k so according to those information that would be fine. But still that bridge pickup... I am starting to think that I've been scr**wed. The coils and bobbins look the same as original, but it has white back. From the other hand it has 16k and short lead, so... I'm quite confused I must admit :)

Cuold some of You measure Your Wolfgangs for DC resistance of both pickups? I would really apreciate this.

Best regards, Andy.

I didn't care that much for the wolf pickups just seemed kinda dead on the low end side, just put the evh frankenstein in sounds awsome. The tones come out better great pickup

OK guys, I took some photos:

I was wrong by saying that the back of bridge pup is white. It is black but polished. This is that pickup with "B" letter.

I am kinda confused I must say. Could You please look at this auction and tell me if those are real Wolfgang pups? Unfortunately the seller didn't answer my question what resistance both pups have. Here's the link:

Best Regards and big thanks for You help

The neck has a higher DC resistance but in actual fact is not hotter in terms of output.
