As many of you know, for the last several years we have been working on completely re-designing SeymourDuncan.com, replacing every single soundclip, image and organizing and building it to make it easier to find what you're looking for. We are now approaching the moment for a public launch and wanted to first grant access to our forum members to provide your thoughts, bug reports and feature requests. Keep in mind we are still tidying up a bit so there are still some issues we are sorting out, and the connection will be quite a bit slower than the live site. We would greatly appreciate your feedback.

Feel free to explore around for the next 3 days and come back here with any issues or suggestions: Begin Your Journey Here

If you experience a bug, please let us know what kind of browser you are using and how to reproduce it (a screenshot is always super-helpful). Please don't try and purchase anything at this time. We want to really thank you guys for your patience on this, I know this new website has been alluded to for so many years as if it was some mysterious Led Zeppelin reunion tour that never comes. During the last couple years there was always some level of effort going into making this site with all new images, soundclips, pickup selector, descriptions, tech tips, wiring diagrams and over 11,000 urls. The site itself contains lots of information, so we hope you find the changes that have been made to have made it easier to learn and browse.

A note on the buying, we use a service that allows us to sell online but to have those orders filled by local stores. This feature is for US only (in fact it's invisible to those outside the US).

Re: Explore The NEW SeymourDuncan.com

If it's ok, I'll edit this post as I find bugs or think of suggestions for improvement.

[Minor issues/cleanup points]
-The "Lorem ipsum" is still on the Pickup Selector page, next to "What's your setup?".
-Under Step 2: Details (pickup selector), Basswood and Maple body woods are on the same selection icon
-The Old Musty Archives link at the bottom takes you right back to the page you're already on.

[General observations]
-Haven't gone through all the wiring diagrams, but I do like what I've seen. Not as user-friendly as the huge drop-down list for each pickup type, but more organized.

[Issues - Wiring Diagrams]
- There's no way to select split/phase/etc accessory switching at all, even when selecting options that had those variants in the old diagrams, except general overviews of the concepts down in the Misc Wiring section. Those variants aren't appearing in the list of alternate diagrams, either, except one: the H-S-H layout offers a "with push pull" optional diagram.
- There's no 3-hum option (LP Custom), only H-S-H or H-PhatCat-H

[Commentary - Wiring Diagrams page]
Just to be anal, I'd have "Humbucker" as the first option in the "Select Neck pickup" list, and move P90/P90 stack down near P-Rail and Phat Cat just to keep it alphabetical.
Humbucker diagrams can be applied to any 4-conductor, whether it's a Jr/Lil or a full-sized, so being able to select a general pickup formatting quickly would help with conversion of wiring concepts. Certainly a 2-hum layout is more common than a H-P90 or Passive bridge-Blackout neck layout, so having Humbucker as the first option for both neck and bridge would make more sense.

Looks good to me so far. Love the new pickup pages.

Although I would like to see an option to add accessory switches/pots without resetting the whole thing.

Thanks! Yes, we do still have some dummy text on a couple places which should be cleaned up shortly. Agreed on the third item and will be looking into this more.

Re: Explore The NEW SeymourDuncan.com

Loving the new pickup selector. New demos are nice to hear too.

Otherwise, there's "pickup selector child page" on the pickup picker that goes to nowhere.

Re: Explore The NEW SeymourDuncan.com

funny, having p90 as top choices seems off to me too. It's a number thing, but we can change it. The first pickup list will always be long, and we figured it was best in alpha order. Then the 2nd and 3rd pickup choices are conditional so the list shrinks.

Scott miller conceptualizer this "wiring wizard" and put it together. I think some terminology clarification and changes will enhance it further. And of course add any missing diagrams!! Please let us know missing items

Re: Explore The NEW SeymourDuncan.com

Looks pretty good I am using an iPhone 6 with Safari. I went out for a walk using my cell phone. When there's a lot of content I got lost with the hierarchy of info, say when the list of pickup combinations were long.

Re: Explore The NEW SeymourDuncan.com

I'm going to have to check this out in the morning after I let my machine install Win10 overnight.

Re: Explore The NEW SeymourDuncan.com

How come you can't pick more than one music style in the "I Play" section of the Pickup Selector?

Bridge type could use a few more options, like Bigsby, Tele barrel string-though body, Tele top-load, TOM steel, TOM nylon, Archtop wood, etc.

Same with fretboard wood - there's a few other kinds out there. Body needs mahogany/maple cap. (How could that be left out?)

Re: Explore The NEW SeymourDuncan.com

I hope it's a lot faster when it launches. The pages load rather slow, considering it's mostly static content.

Re: Explore The NEW SeymourDuncan.com

It re-loads faster once you get all of a page's assets initially loaded (at least the wiring diagrams). Too, the opening post did say it's slower than the launch site will be. Then there's the issue of peak traffic times, which you may have hit.

Re: Explore The NEW SeymourDuncan.com

I'd like it if you guys would also post pictures of the colored humbuckers rather than redirecting them to a custom shop page. Also, more clarity should be an option on the pickup wizard.

Re: Explore The NEW SeymourDuncan.com

I'm liking it... looks great. The pickup selector took me right to a set that I already own, one that I already planned to purchase, and another that I had never considered... very cool.

Found 1 bug:
  • On the "Crunchy Amp" sound sample for the Custom Custom, the "Guitar Only" and "Band Mix" are reversed from the buttons.

Suggestions (Wiring Diagrams):
  • Would be nice to have a way to browse the diagrams instead of having to make selections. A lot of those diagrams will translate to other pickup types and it would be nice to be able to see options that aren't listed just because (for example) you may have picked "P-Rails" instead of "Humbucker."
  • Would also be nice to have the option for pdf versions of the diagrams instead of just images.

Re: Explore The NEW SeymourDuncan.com

No metadata for SSL-3 RWRP:

Also, seems strange to me that for Classic Rock, HSS, I was suggested Black Winter/SSL-3/SSL-3 and Invader/Hot Rails/Hot Rails.

Re: Explore The NEW SeymourDuncan.com

I'd say because you can't get a pickup that covers Metal and Blues, where Metal is defined - by a pickup company who wishes to remain current in the marketplace - as whatever's "big" in Metal at the moment. In this case, it's the Pegasus/Nazgul/Sentient stuff with the super-detuned and ultra-high gain crowd. Meanwhile, Blues is still Blues, and there is some overlap with the 59 and Custom models being at the high end of Blues Rock (ACDC, ZZ Top, Aerosmoth, etc) and the low end of Heavy Metal (Priest, Maiden, Motorhead, etc).

Not being able to select multiple tonally different styles will hopefully put an end to the "I only have one guitar but play Whatever'snewcore Metal, electric Delta Blues, and Smooth Jazz - what one pickup can do all those plus get an authentic Tele twang when split and cop EVH's Brown Sound in parallel?" posts.

The solution here would be to have a field called 'versatility', that would return those pickups that can easily cross multiple styles. We will be discussing the maple cap field more. Thanks beaubrummels!

Good catch, that was not on my list of pages containing dummy text. I've edited it for the time being, check it out now ;)

Can you let me know what combinations you put in the Pickup Selector to receive those results?

This was brought up once before some time ago and it was explained that colored pickups were difficult to represent accurately online due to the variations in computer displays. What appears as burgundy on one monitor may appear more purplish on another, or more reddish on another.

Re: Explore The NEW SeymourDuncan.com

I haven't had time to bust out the fine tooth comb but I looked through the site and overall, the changes are great. The one thing that always bugged me was the sound clips for neck pickups. They're mostly clean tones. I'd like to hear more lead tones. And I like choice of Rock and Metal on the clips but some don't have that.
