Explorer Neck Profile Question

I'm a strat guy but I tend to love me some Gibsons (explorers specifically) and the necks on them is a slim D. As a strat guy, I love the feel of the strat neck because I don't have big hands. How similar or different are explorer and strat necks?

Re: Explorer Neck Profile Question

Explorer necks are generally quite different. They are pretty narrow, pretty flat (front and back), and generally have bigger feeling frets than most Strats, not to mention the difference in scale length. An Explorer and a Strat don't feel anything like each other, other than them both being electric guitars.

What would probably be the best thing to do would be to put together a Warmoth guitar. You'd have to find a used Explorer body, though, as they no longer make them.

+1. I love Explorer necks (at least on the one I used to have), but I can see some folks have an issue switching from a Strat

Re: Explorer Neck Profile Question

I was told the same thing that Explorer necks were narrow and thin. I have a '58 Reissue Korina (only an Epiphone), but it is wider and chunckier that any modern C profile Fender. I like the way it feels, but it is much different.

Re: Explorer Neck Profile Question

They're pretty different, but Explorer necks are a lot more similar to Strats than Les Pauls are. If you like the sound of Explorers, it might be worth it to try a couple and see what you think.

I should replace the word "narrow" with "thin." They are not narrow at all; they actually feel quite wide, due to their thinness.
