The V is iconic.
It transcends musical styles, looking as good in the hands of a bluesman as a metalhead
I bet it is the only guitar that your grandmother can correctly identify.

Re: Explorer or flying V, Which would you prefer

i hate playing a V, sitting down or standing up. What you sit down, you have to play with one leg in between the "V" cut away and when you stand up, it's always tilting at funny angles. I would rather have the explorer. Love the old 70's Ibanez (Gibson explorer copy) "Korina" destroyers

............just me though

Nice guitars,

I notice the explorer has more wood than the V,

did you ever compare their tones and resonance with the same pickups, woods, string gauge,

and about the look,

for me, the explorer has a more reserve look to it,

Explorer by far, V's are a little too out there for me, I like to be able to sit down comfortably with a guitar and I don't think I'd have enough guitar around me to feel normal with a V

Re: Explorer or flying V, Which would you prefer

I like the Explorer better.....I feel like CC DeVille when I play my Flying V :(

I have a V for sale!

Re: Explorer or flying V, Which would you prefer

I cannot stand one or the other; Gibson's Explorer and V look too bulky to me. I do, however, love the Carvin Ultra V as well as the Jackson King V. :cool2::cool2::cool2::cool2:

-head explodes-

see? told you itd happen.

Re: Explorer or flying V, Which would you prefer

I can't confess to being a fan of either. However, based on the comfort factor sat down I'll go Explorer! I guess these guitars were built for stage performance, not fiddling in the back room!

Re: Explorer or flying V, Which would you prefer

I like both. I have a Gibson Flying V, and I love it, but every time I see an Explorer-shaped guitar in a store, I'm like "Oooooohhh...." That body style is very comfortable and nicely balanced.

Re: Explorer or flying V, Which would you prefer

V all the way. Not the most comfortable design (seems like it's 6 feet long) but some of the greats have used them. It's a classic. Don't like the Explorer's Fenderish headstock. I have an Epi V, in ebony with a black pickguard & gold hardware, just beautiful. Wouldn't want it as my main guitar, but it's a nice change.
