It wouldn't be the S/D Forum without some digression! That's what it's about!

Re: Explorer or flying V, Which would you prefer

I'm going to start a Martin vs. Taylor thread and see how long it takes for the SG to make its appearance once again. :)

Re: Explorer or flying V, Which would you prefer

I love them both, when they're all dressed up and made of quality materials.

Here's some of my Hamer Standards and Standard Customs;

Dean will EVEN help those who REALLY cant decide which one they like with the original tribute to a fallen comrade, The ML, Half V, Half Explorer.....

E3, my 2004 Dean Owners of America Open House guitar #28/50

Big Bird, A 2006 Korina Korean made Prototype I owned for awhile...

Dean built this guitar in tribute to a childhood friend whose initials are M.L. :headbang:

"This guitar" being the ML model not the Yellow one.

Re: Explorer or flying V, Which would you prefer

Love me them Hamer Standards! Ive never been able to lay hands on one tho... So, if I play an explorer (which I do) and I buy a standard, what am I going to notice when I get it? Im guessing better fretwork? Fatter neck?
Similar balance? Basically, Im asking if they are very different, or similar?
I love the neck on mine, Id just like to have a nice black quilt top

Someone said that the V has the best neck access, and he was corrected. While very good, it's not the best. uOpt was right to speak up. This wasn't one of those things that is pure opinion.

Why don't you go on back and read the post in question?

To tell the truth, it's really difficult to pick one over the other. I like Explorers because of all that arse they seem to have behind them, but I LOVE Vs because:

1. They come with their own stand.
2. Upper fret access is usually amazing
3. They are the only guitars that, while standing, offer the ladies a completely unfettered view of my epic, jiggly gut.

Why not do both? That Dean ML feels like a V that you can sit down with and comes with it's own stand, too! Just be prepared to hear stuff like "Yeah! Dime!" and "Play some Pantera!!!!!" if you ever play it out.

I LOVE my SGs, but that's not what I said. Did you even bother to read it, or did you just assume that because I'm a stupid noob I made a statement that broad and all-knowing? Yes, I understand that there are Vs without incredible upper fret access, but most that I've played are better than the original Gibson Explorer, where my pinky gets cramped trying to reach that 22nd fret. Seeing as how the original thread was about Explorers vs Vs, I felt justified in my appraisal of the pros and cons. Should I have explained myself better or something?

What's your frickin problem?

Brandon, it's all good and you definitely are not a stupid noob. For those that don't know him, Brandon, knows his ****

It's good to see a bunch of my Dean Forum Brothers over here posting. Bill Armitage, Gene (BTMN), Brandon

BTW, between Bill and Gene, I seriously doubt there is very many people that can boast guitar collections like theirs. especially Gene's USA Hamer collection. Brandon has a bunch of sweeties to, gotta love the Greco expecially

Post the Punisher Bro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The above guys can attest to my love for the Explorer shape. I love V's but there is something about Explorer's that just are so right for me

I am expecting delivery of a '05 Dean Time Capsule Exotic Spalted Maple ML tomorrow, my first foray away from Explorer's in awhile but the guitar is unreal. I will post some images when it is delivered

Re: Explorer or flying V, Which would you prefer

Oh man, The Dean guys are here, there goes the nieghborhood for sure now

Fret access, it's all just a few degrees variance most of the time anyway and it is also dependent on the player's hand size. Formula73 and say, Buckethead, have WAY differant finger lengths yet both have been known to play tasty guitar licks. Why argue over it in the end. :headbang:

Nice display of self control. We're looking for more hot-tempered newbies to lose it on this forum, know any? It's much more fun when members are screaming at each other. Seymour wanted to add that Jerry Springer aspect to his forums.

I miss the arguments on the Old-style forum. They were quite often highly entertaining, though highly inflamatory!:sword:

Glad I can help! What I really think we need here is a heftier holier-than-thou contingent. You know where I can find some people to fill that out?

Re: Explorer or flying V, Which would you prefer

Dont you boys MAKE me pull this ride over OR I Swear!!!!!!! :chairshot :nana: :27: :blindfold

Re: Explorer or flying V, Which would you prefer

IIRC, that was a Guitar of the week model from 2007. It is a Pro. I would like one in Natural Clear. Then again I want one of almost EVERY "Explorer".
