That Spalted Maple top Hamer was made earlier this year. I think my Friend Dave sold that one through his shop in Maryland. Either way it is a nice looker and I bet player too. http://www.rocketeria.biz


I see I forgot to mention how SWEET!!!! AzCat's GMPs are in my last post. That Sunburst is wearing me out it's so purdy! :laugh:

I kinda dig Dean's takeoffs on the Explorer too, the Caddy and the ML. I have this ML arriving Wednesday.

Should be interesting. Supposed to be Korina. Korean made prototype. The 24 guitar run it is for is supposed to be Mahogany body with Mahogany neck. Proto came with Korina body and Maple neck. :11: :confused: :wrf:

I wasn't planning to get one of the 24 but I love me some Korina so I put in to get it when the guitar was passed on by a couple that are going to get one of the 24. Dean is cool for making 24 piece custom runs for the guys on their forum or for a dealer willing to pony up to order. If anyone is interested in knowing more I can pass on more info links.

BTMN is the biggest GAS indcuer I've ever encountered. This thread is killing me (and my wallet)!!!! LOL!

Here is a '96 Caddy in Korina along with a '96 ?Korina V they are consecutivly serial numbered bought 2 years apart from owners 1200 miles apart. :)

Man, that is a cool factoid!!

Ive always wanted to play one of those caddys..

Why is it everytime I see GMPs they look so cool, but why can I never find anyplace that sells them.

Cause GMP went out of buisness last year. You MIGHT find a used one but best I can say on that is GOOD LUCK. You'll need it.

Edited to Note: There are 4 on Evilbay now. Two are Leftys. One of them is a BADASS V with a Flamejob paintjob.

It's a really fun guitar. Super light, looks incredible, feels good, good fetwork. I swapped out all the elctronics and am waiting on a new bridge pickup. I have a DiMarzio Virtual HOT PAF in there now...I just don't dig it. (I've had that pickup in a couple guitars and it just hasn't worked for me.) The nut is a little rough, but I plan to replace that so it's all good.

Bottom line: a really cool guitar...especially for the price.

BTMN, I think they run maple necks with korina on the various imports cos mahogany is just too danged dark with a korina body and it would look funky ...not to mention maple shares some brightness characteristics with korina (limba)...and Nice ML!!! ...saw the thread on that 24-run over at the Dean forums awhile back.

BTW...To ONCE AND FOR ALL SETTLE THE DEBATE...

I was reading a History of Gibson type book yesterday in the book store..

When Gibson first built the Futura, V and Explorer back in late 57...they used the name Korina , instead of limba, because that is the tradename limba went by in the wood/timber/lumber industry....they (Gibson) did NOT coin the term...

Thanks. The ML should be here tomorrow. What a good day it will be, New ML, Motley Crue and Aerosmith show. Now all I need is to get laid and it will be a trifecta. Oh wait I still gotta be to work Thursday at 6:30 am . Hmmm...... :censored:

I guess I wasn't to clear above. The proto should have been Mahogany body and neck with flametop veneer. How it came to be Korina and Maple was the mystery. I'm cool with Korina/Maple although all Korina woulda been more fun to have. Talk about some nice snap. YUM!!!

I was watching the DVD KISS-ology, and noticed that Ace was using an Explorer on the Paul Lynde Halloween Special (lip-synching to "King of the Midnight World"). 1976 was when it was aired. I remember seeing that as a 16-year old kid but had no recollection of him playing an Explorer!

I did a little research and he owned a few Explorer-types. Chances are that the one he used in '76 was a Ibanez 2459 Destroyer.

Cool ace picture!! That shape suits his character well.. Tho I never saw him play anything but a paul or that funny disco/techno unit signature model in the Dyanasty days..

I have a guitar mag center fold some where of Ace in room with all different cool guitars laying around. Was obviously before he sniffed them all up.
