exposed coils on a jb?

sorry if this is a bit of a stupid question, but i just got a jb installed in the bridge of my guitar yesterday and noticed it didnt have any black tape around the bobbins like the sh-5 it was replacing. i was just wondering if this is like this on all jb's, and if not would it affect the sound in any way? e.g. more prone to feedback?

i tried to do some searches on this first and only came up with this link regarding a trembucker. scroll down a bit on that page.

thanks.

Re: exposed coils on a jb?

My JB definitely has tape around it. Thats odd. Did you buy it new?

Edit: After looking at that pic, I may have misunderstood your question. My JB has tape going around the entire pickup, none around the individual coils. I don't think any of my pups have (black) tape going around the coils.

I brought my Custom in to work today, and seeing it disassembled jogged my memory about this thread.

The Custom definitely has black tape surrounding each coil. ;)
