Extension speakers question

I've been looking for an extension to my 15w Peavey.

Today an amp tech here told me that the amp can't drive a 2X12 because it won't handle the speakers. Is it true?
If it is true - why do they put an extension speaker jack in the amp?

Thanks!!!! that's good news... I was hoping on using the 15w with a 2x12 cab because the 50w amps I played in live situation didn't need to go anywhere 2 or 3 on the scale... I don't want to carry around a heavy amp just so I could crank it to 25%...

He said something about the transistor of the amp, that it won't handle it - I've never heard about it. The thing is, the guy's a pro... he builds his own amps and fixes amps for a few famous artists here...

I'm bumping it because I'm still not sure...

I meant to say transformer and not transistor in the last post - could large speakers affect it in any way?

Well if the phms are set wrong yes but otherwise i dont think so.
