"Extreme Shaped Guitars" Talk And Recommendations

Re: "Extreme Shaped Guitars" Talk And Recommendations

Headless?

It is indeed headless.

I normally don’t care for extreme designs but this one just works. The luthier who crafted this is named Michihiro Matsuda. He calls it the deconstruction guitar.

I would have designed a pickup with more curves.

Or a split-type pup...one for the plain strings and another closer to the bridge for the wound strings. If you're going to "deconstruct" the guitar, might as well do it to the pup as well.

Vs and Explorers are ergonomic enough for me, thanks.

I dig the Teuffel Tesla, too:

Oh no! Don't admit that!

(I used to have such respect for your taste.)

Ha! I met the designer at NAMM and spent some time with one. It is a remarkable guitar, with some really quirky features. The paint is textured, with some weird fuzziness to it. Some of those round disks are momentary buttons. One is a kill switch, one adds 60 cycle hum, like a broken cable, but really loud, the other activates a small microphone in the body wired into the pickups creating a feedback loop. When you press it, you get loud microphonic squeal through the amp! That's just crazy to me. It was a really fun guitar to play, but at $12k, nope.

Wow. I've bought stacks and rails to get rid of noise, wouldn't pay top dollar for it!

I think these Relish guitars are very cool but a bit pricy as expected. The idea of hot-swappable pickups is cool.

I dig the super-modern designs, as long as it still sounds good, the balance is right, and they get the weight down. I don't see going against tradition just for the sake of it, but there can be a lot of issues in traditional design that needs to be looked at with fresh modern eyes.
