F#ck It!! I Give Up

I have tried and tried to get this mix right, but I can't. I don't know if it's me just not getting along with the Eleven Rack, or my ears being totally trashed. I feel, and have felt for the past couple of weeks that my ears have been sucked in like a 1/2" or something. Hell, I don't know.

I even went down and played it in D Standard tuning for the hell of it.

I don't know if I need to sling the Eleven Rack out the back door or stick some firecrackers in my ears to open them up. Something's got to give!!

Fire that JVM up, John!

I prefer the original guitar tone, but the bass is kinda lost..plinky. The new mix the bass sounds better but the guitar loses its punch and snarl..high ,mids.

But I think you maybe are being overcritical. Both sound pretty good. May wanna try soundcloud to post clips. Much less compression.

Get some Lipo-flavinod. It helps my ears. It really helps the tenitis.

The thing about mixing is this: its all about a sense of scale. Think of it like composition of a photograph. You can only fit so much into the frame. For something to look big, it needs something small to give it scale. For example, a tall man only looks tall standing next to a short person, or an iceberg can only really be seen for its immensity if there is a boat in the photo. If you want to show how big the boat is, dont put it next to an iceberg, place it in a way that a human looks small. If you want to show the rich red color of a balloon, place it against a blue sky or green field rather than a blazing sunset. Once you have the sense of the elements you want to capture, then its all about where you place them in the frame.
If you want something to sound huge, then something else has to sound small by comparison. So once you have the sound elements, then its a matter of placing them where you want them.
Hope this left field thinking is helpful in some way.

I like the new tuning better. My 2 cents. Get some Impulse responses and cabinet sims from Poulin and Guitar Hacks. Mix in a track of those with the 11 rack track. To me it lacks any sort of room vibe at the moment, it's very direct sounding.

Ah I can hear now that the guitar in the E one sounds thicker but not necessarily in a good way IMO.

I really like the new mix. I think that 'scooped' sound you were tellin' me about is actually just clarity. It sounds more clear and crisp to me.

Both are pretty rad though. Gotta say I do like the feel of it better in E.

Newer clip definitely sounds better to me. The groove of this riff seems to really suit the D tuning better too

sounds good both ways. not sure what you're going for jolly that's driving you nuts - a particular recorded tone, or a previous direct or mic'ed sound you got in the past?

no need for the thread's extreme title! I like the second mix better cause the bass sounds good and meaty in it and I like the bass intro; the first mix I could barely hear the bass like the others commented. the 11r sounds fine, I am glad you got it up and running.

I am usually slower :eyecrazy: than you at getting techological stuff working, kudos!! :approve:

Jolly, try to get the frequencies out of the bass that the guitars arn't covering. I like it better in D. Your relly close IMHO.:yourock:
