Fake Seymour Duncan pickups on Amazon

Re: Fake Seymour Duncan pickups on Amazon

Here is a link to the same pickups on eBay. $12 a set shipped from China...

Curious how you’re making a connection between the pickups delivered to the OP via Amazon and the pickups on your link above??? Not only do they look very different but the pickups on your link above are not being sold as SD pickups. The OP ordered SD pickups.

Simple. Look at the pictures that the OP provided. Now look at the pictures in the eBay auction. Both pickups have the same markings and wiring colors and since the OP received counterfeit pickups I think it's safe to say that someone pulled the ol' switcheroo... Now, the person stealing the genuine pickups is probably going to go with the cheapest pickups he can find to do the switch. Hence a $12 pair of chinese pickups will suffice.

Re: Fake Seymour Duncan pickups on Amazon

Just as an update, Amazon refunded the order and I shipped the fake pickups back. Hopefully that is the last I hear about it but I'll reserve judgement until I see the money back on the credit card. Cheap ass chinese pickups.

You are quite correct (and have good eyes!!! LOL!!!).

So I take it you never tried them out??? LOL!!!

Thanks for updating everyone. And glad you're sorted. Be very curious to know what Amazon does internally about this.

But hey: don't knock Chinese pickups!!! LOL!!! That DM SD that I was talking about earlier was to replace a stock Jackson pickup which, turns out, is made by a Chinese outfit called "Belcat" and I can tell ya: there ain't much difference (if any) between the pickup I took out and the DM SD (certainly wasn't worth the trouble or the cost). But this is different of course to what happened here i.e. the Belcat pickups are not being sold as knockoffs of other branded pickups.

Here’s an interesting video... similar pickups to the Chinese ones here.

Re: Fake Seymour Duncan pickups on Amazon

My guess is that somebody bought a legit set, swapped them for whatever that is and returned them. Free set of WLH.

Nailed it.

I doubt there is ANYTHING particularly nefarious here by the seller - Somebody either swapped out pickups on them unknowingly or the sellers work put them in the wrong box after display and then months/years later someone tries to sell them not realizing the mistake.

I suggest working with them to rectify before character assassinating them online. Probably an honest mistake -Occams's Razor

OH WAIT - 12 dollars from CHINA? OK yeah.... Sketchy. screw Occam.

Re: Fake Seymour Duncan pickups on Amazon

Hi.

Well my Invader (bridge) has just arrived. I ASSUME it's the genuine article???

DSC00620Compare.jpg

ASSUMING it's genuine:

I am very surprised at the packaging. Take a look at the cracks in the box i.e. those cracks have obviously been caused by something having been loaded on top of the package in transit and the actual pole pieces have cracked the box as a result. There doesn't seem to be any damage to the pickup itself but who knows. Actually asking for some input from you guys here i.e. worth complaining and getting a replacement or not??? At this point I've no idea if there's a problem with the actual pickup after all of this.

Compare the SD packaging to the Dimarzio packaging. The Dimarzio packaging is designed in such a way that unless the box was TOTALLY destroyed then there's no way of putting pressure on the actual pickup. Not to mention the fact that the SD box was sealed with two pieces of sellotape on either side (which could easily be removed and reattached). The Dimarzio was sealed with a sort of tamper proof paper tape on either side (the only way to remove it to tear).

Please lemme know your thoughts before I go stripping a guitar again to put this thing in.

All my Duncan boxes are cracked. The packaging doesn’t matter nearly as much as the pickup itself. Check that the baseplate and labelling is correct. If it’s “new”, check that the bobbin tape hasn’t been messed with.

Re: Fake Seymour Duncan pickups on Amazon

Hello.

Well the base plate is engraved (or whatever) with the SD logo and “Made in America” and another small sticker that apppears to contain the manufacturing date, model no., and one or two other things. And that black tape or whatever seems glued down and untouched. So I figure all good??? BUT just wanted to check that no damage had been done as a result of this pressure. Unscrewed each pole piece and screwed back in. Three of the pole pieces will not tighten up at all (oddly enough not the same pole pieces that cracked the box)??? Why would three out of the twelve pole pieces just not tighten up???

Re: Fake Seymour Duncan pickups on Amazon

They should tighten, but if they didn't, I'd use some white glue on the threads and not think about it. I have gotten cracked boxes before, but I never thought to take out the poles. I just tested it with a meter, and if it works, I put it in and play.

Re: Fake Seymour Duncan pickups on Amazon

These threads are making me paranoid.
You and me both. I am almost sorry I found this thread before this Invader arrived!!! LOL!!!

So I take it I can just slap my multimeter onto hot and ground and if I get a reading pretty close to the spec. then all good to go??? I am almost too scared to try!!! LOL!!!

TBH I’ve never verified the DCR first. I solder it first. If I like it, no questions asked.

Another comment:

Don't worry about it. I'm willing to bet that in the next twenty four hours there's going to be at least a few that stumble upon this thread and will be out there with ye olde Allen key checking to see if their Invader pole pieces are tight!!! LOL!!!

Well for what it's worth: I get 16.41Ω???

Had to check for the fun of it. And not to mention that I've had this guitar open so many times already (playing around with the DM SD and different pots. and caps.) that very soon I'm gonna be out with the toothpicks and superglue filling stripped screw holes!!! LOL!!! Point being: this is THE LAST time I'm opening it up!!!

That’s definitely in the ballpark, so good.

Lol you should use one of those SD pots that make it easy to swap pickups.

Re: Fake Seymour Duncan pickups on Amazon

Which part of "THE LAST time" did you not get??? LOL!!! (With reference to making it easy to swap pickups!!! LOL!!!).

Famous last words I suppose!!! LOL!!!
