Favorite Artificial Pickup Cover Aging Process?

Re: Favorite Artificial Pickup Cover Aging Process?

for plastic parts, i like ot let them sit in earl gray tea for about a half hour and then wipe them off good, if they aren't yellowed enough, then put them back in there.

for metal parts, some people like some light acid, but i use some steel wool and take the shine off. if I want some bigger gouges or marks i use a small file, screwdriver or something like that. already rusted screws add a nice touch if that is the look you are going for.

I mostly just take the shine off some parts like my fender tele ts neck pickup cover. light steel wool worked great for it and it doesn't look out of place on an almost new guitar.

I've said before, & no doubt, I'll say it again: pee pee

Re: Favorite Artificial Pickup Cover Aging Process?

I pissed on a humbucker cover I had, it worked real good. Left it outside for a few days, then washed it off with the garden hose.

Re: Favorite Artificial Pickup Cover Aging Process?

Did it "stain" it or give it that relic look?

Re: Favorite Artificial Pickup Cover Aging Process?

say NO to piss!!! at least in my case, I was impatient so I tried to "artificially" dry the piss.....bad idea!!!!!! Now I have a rectangular yellow stain on my bathroom counter top!!! and a nasty stench that took forever to get out. GROSS!!!!

Re: Favorite Artificial Pickup Cover Aging Process?

Led, what the hell are you doing pissing on your countertop? AND LEAVING IT IN THE ****ING HOUSE?! Take it outside on a warm, or atleast sunny day, piss on it, leave it out there, then when it gets dark or close to it, go spray it off with the garden hose. Dont drink alot of water though, you want a very acidic piss.

Re: Favorite Artificial Pickup Cover Aging Process?

I can't believe you guys are actually pissing in the stuff ... jeez use coffee or tea like the rest of us civilized folkes

:laugh2:

Re: Favorite Artificial Pickup Cover Aging Process?

Proph, coffee and tea arnt going to age a humbucker cover. As for the plastic stuff, buy the cream colored stuff at you guitar shop, looks realer.

Re: Favorite Artificial Pickup Cover Aging Process?

is this a pick up forum or water sports porno sight? :laugh2:

Re: Favorite Artificial Pickup Cover Aging Process?

I use muriatic acid for 2-4 days depending on the cover then sand paper and steel wool for finishing

I quite like Relic Strats, I like a Guitar that looks like it has a few tales to tell.

Very funny thread though :)

Re: Favorite Artificial Pickup Cover Aging Process?

I think I'd need a rinse master to rinse off the idea that my pickup cover has been swimming in urine. :D

Re: Favorite Artificial Pickup Cover Aging Process?

The best natural relicing process is letting the pickup cover through your cow. It is easy, just order an anti-chew pickup washing box from stewmac.com (the same that you use for washing your pickups in your washing machine), put the pickup cover in, hide it in the hay for your cow and then dig it out from the pile. Easy, natural, ergonomic.

Oh. do NOT try to relic active EMGs this way. A 9V battery can turn the milk into beer and it's a lethal liquid. Aye! - HIC -

If you have no patience to sit and wait by the cow's DI output, just lend me your pickup for one gig played at the Beersplitter's. Given back it will look rusty like as it was from the Middle Ages. It will smell like that, too.

Cheers,

Miki

Yeah, not a nice idea, I'd go with the Acid, at least that way I'd wanna touch it afterwards.

Just a thought, I wonder how they age antiquities at SD? :laugh2:

Re: Favorite Artificial Pickup Cover Aging Process?

Damn!.... Come on dudes... that's disgusting... pissing on a pickup!

I'm starting wondering what you're using as wax for a brown finish.. :laugh2: :laugh2:
