Favorite clean humbucker?

Re: Favorite clean humbucker?

Interesting...I am not a fan at all of Alnico IIs...they sound good when others play them but not when I do. lol

Re: Favorite clean humbucker?

I liked the Jazz neck really well for cleans. It was still a little too "humbucker" and muddy for me compared to my strat neck pickup though. I had the custom shop make me a Jazz neck where one coil was underwound so the whole thing was about 6.4K, and that's currently my favorite clean humbucker.

I'm currently gathering parts to put together a humbucker that reads about the same but with A5 adjustable screw rods instead of steel pole pieces. I'm very curious How that will sound!

Re: Favorite clean humbucker?

I missed that link to the hollowed gold covers. I planned to steal them off the stock pickups. I ordered Jazz neck and bridge, black, no wax, no logo, gold pieces, A3 bars.

Re: Favorite clean humbucker?

I really like my Pearly Gates Plus for Strat. They're cleaner than standard pearly gates and overwound a bit too. Clean, fat, and just a little bit of rude thrown in. There's a clean and crunch demo on YouTube in an orange strat. Worth a listen if nothing else!

Re: Favorite clean humbucker?

But around once every decade or so, SD does a parking lot sale where they'll unload b-stock, returns, customs that were never sold for whatever reason, prototypes, obsolete items, etc. Also sold are instruments that were lying around not being used as well as old components like tubes, footswitches, etc. And whatever else SD wants to get rid of.

Sorry for the hijack.

Can we have a garage sale soon? I think a lot of people would be interested in this. Or just continuously selling b-stocks in general (obviously only if they are labeled as such).

Re: Favorite clean humbucker?

Screamin' Demon is still my favorite allrounder. Bright, open, defined and articulate whilst still having a growly sound and percussive low end.
The clean samples I heard from the Perpetual Burn sounded very lush. Especially for a bridge position pickup.

Hi,
Had to jump in without reading all the post due to time problems, however, if you go Jazz neck or Seth neck-GO A4 and NO POTTING!!
NICE CLEAN MIDS!! VERY AIRY! Can't ever say enough about it.

Re: Favorite clean humbucker?

I haven't tried the Fluence humbuckers. I was hoping to get black exposed bobbins though, maybe with gold slugs and screws via the Custom Shop, to keep with the look:

Do you have an opinion on how it might sound with A3, A4 or A8 magnets?

Beautiful looking LP!

If it hasn't been suggested yet, what about a StagMag. Very nice clean tones, plus you can split and get real start tones out of it. Strats always have the best clean tone to me, except for the big hollow body jazz boxes.

Or you could go PhatCat? and keep with the look of the neck pup.

While I agree with everything said here, I do not feel the Demon is a great clean pickup. I love the Demon, but it really shines with High Gain. Clean, it tends to be too bright at the wrong frequencies. You would really have to dial your amp to accommodate the Demon for clean tones.

Matter of taste I guess. I use the Demon without a tone knob in a fairly bright super strat and just use volume cleanup to get clean. No additional eq required for me.
