Favorite delay pedal

I'm looking for a versatile delay pedal, and I've narrowed it down to these:
Vox Time Machine
EH Stereo Memory Man (with Hazarai)
EH Deluxe Memory Man (analog)
TC Elec. Nova Delay
TC Elec. Nova Repeater
Seymour Deja Vu
Carbon Copy?

I'm leaning towards a digital pedal for clarity, but might consider a good analog pedal. The carbon copy has a ? because it might be a bit TOO simple, ie, not enough options. I've left off the eventide (don't want to spend $400) and the giga delay (too dense with complex options).

Anyone have strong opinions about any of these, or a suggestion for something else to consider?

i like the idea of the deja va with both analog and digital options and the little experience ive had with one is positive.

Re: Favorite delay pedal

Of the pedals you mentioned the older (analog) Deluxe Memory Man is tops no question...those things are like a non tube, non tape Echoplex!

Next for me would be the Carbon Copy...great tone in a little box...

The new Memory Man (with Hazarai) is super cool and offers a lot of features but isn't my bag...

Re: Favorite delay pedal

... not strong opinion, but:

EHX Deluxe Memory Man vs Nova Delay

Nova Delay is easier to set exactly for number of delays and delay time because of the digital readouts
Nova Delay can be preprogrammed although it is very difficult to switch back and forth between 2 programs on the fly.
Nova Delay offers multiple delay options
The Nova Delay's input is adjustable so that it can be run either in front of the amp or in the loop (for me it is best in the loop)
Nova delay alters guitar tone slightly whether on or in bypass
2290 ms (DMM is typically more like 450ms in spite of advertised numbers)
ND-1 offers tap tempo
The Nova has a ducking delay which is a nice feature - the delay is automatically backed off as you're playing and then kicks up to your setting between notes.

EHX is richer ... more organic sounding (although not totally transparent)
EHX's modulation effects are far superior to the ND-1
IMO, the EHX sounds way better, but obviously does fewer tricks. Versatility is not its strong point.

I suggest you add the DigiTech Hardwire DL-8 Stereo Delay/Looper Pedal to your list of options:

Re: Favorite delay pedal

I really dig the Boss DD20 GigaDelay. I've had one since 2005 and I see no need to replace it currently. Although lately I have been wondering if there is another unit out there like it that preserves the tone a little better.

Re: Favorite delay pedal

My advice? Keep it simple. I had a Line 6 DL4. Sounded real good but it was so complicated I couldn't really enjoy using it. I finally ditched it and got an EH Deluxe Memory Man. Should've gotten one years ago. It's the best. Very organic sounding - most enjoyable and user friendly delay I've ever owned. Well, the Echoplex I sold Christian that he's enjoying so much was pretty user friendly too. But I have no regrets about selling it - I like the EH Deluxe Memory Man even better. So does the Edge from what I understand.

Are you referring to the EH XO Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai, or the EH Deluxe Memory Man XO Analog Delay?

Not the one with Hazarai. I don't own that one and can't comment on it. However, if Christian says it's super cool, it probably is. He also says it isn't his bag and it probably isn't mine either.

Re: Favorite delay pedal

Rocktron Short Timer Delay is my fav! Warm with lots of vibe. I've got one and will soon have two!!!

Re: Favorite delay pedal

Edge played the early analog DMM before switching to the TC Electronics 2290 rack gear later in life.

I have the nova pedal. For straight delay, it's a great digital pedal, very well thought out and works both before the amp (my preference) as well as in the loop. I also like that you can press & hold the tap tempo button and strum the tempo...more natural for me than tapping the tempo.

I also tried the DMM and SMM with Hazarai before buying the nova. The DMM had a great sound, but no tap tempo was a deal killer for me. SMM was a great pedal, but I found the Nova a little easier to use.

This is a good pedal. It covers a very wide range of delays and is one of the most reliable and unbreakable pedals in the market. At least of the ones that I have played.

The only problem is that it is not very organic.:dot:

EDIT- The tape delay is really good but the other delay types are unorganic like I said before.

Re: Favorite delay pedal

Being made out of metal and electronics....yeah you could say that....
Other than that...well.....it is the only delay I use right now....my Echotone, XL, DD-2, Tapeecho, and all that are collecting dust right now;)

Re: Favorite delay pedal

I have several delays, including a DD-20, DD-3, DanElectro, and a Line 6 Echo Park. But so far, my fave is the Rocktron Short Timer. No Tap Tempo; just a simple little box that sounds very, very good.
