Re: Favorite Fender Guitars

I nominate you for the prestigious 'Most Open-Minded Forum Member Award'.

Haha coming from the guy who doesn't like:

LP Juniors
Esquires
Acoustics
Paul Simon
country
reggae
Unplugged sessions
rap
etc,
In fact you're so vocal in what you don't like what you do like is a mystery

You're absolutely priceless, I nominate you for the following worthless awards:
Forum member most in need of a sense of irony
Forum member most likely to cause a fight in an empty room.

btw is this the way it's going to be from now on? you mining my posts across threads so you can troll?
If you find me that objectionable may I suggest you utilise the 'ignore member' function

Re: Favorite Fender Guitars

Dug yourself a hole with that one, mate. Sorry. Lots of big names played Teles too... I just can't remember most of them. B.B. King played one for a while, I thought, and Keith Richards too - apparently a Tele makes a hell of a club!

They're really big in country and pop it seems, probably because of the huge twang you can get with them. I thought they also sounded kind of raspy and thin, but sometimes I like that. In fact, I actually modified my Squier Stratocaster to have wiring options not all that different from a Telecaster - position two selects the neck and bridge pickups, plus I replaced the secondary tone knob with a bass cut to kind of thin out the sound (or clean it up if I'm on fuzz). I just like the astray pickups and body better, plus the tremolo.

It's all good, I love strats too I mean with Hendrix and Gilmour rocking them who wouldn't, but voted tele cos they come in so many flavours, thinline, custom, deluxe etc and good ones just sound so ****ing raw!!

I'll consider prefacing my future posts 'warning may contain irony read at your own risk'

My strat and tele suprisingly I enjoy playing both, so sue me!!!

Vintage stack & phat cat in the tele, stock pups in the strat,
I'm thinking of sticking antiquities or ssl-1's in the strat what are the forum's thoughts? I'm after Hendrix 'clean' ala little wing wind cries mary etc

But, with the guitars that I don't care for myself, I don't say that I can't see the appeal of them to others, which is your shortcoming ('no one in their right mind wouldn't choose a Tele'). Everyone isn't going to like every guitar, but you can't see why anyone else wouldn't like exactly what you like, and saying they must be crazy if they don't. That could be considered narrow-mindedness.

I don't tell people here what they 'should' be listening to (as opposed to what they actually like to listen to). I don't tell them what genres they 'should' be playing. Again, if they don't have your taste in music, there must be something wrong.

This forum is here for us to talk to other players about what we like and don't like, and the reasons why. The value and strength of this forum comes from the variety of views and opinions expressed here. Not really anyone else's problem if you don't like hearing from people with different views than yours.

all these guys in bold played teles at one time

Most players have tried a variety of guitars before they settled on one they prefer. The players I listed all chose Strats as their main guitars. Since they're some of the world's greatest players, I found it odd that anyone would say that those players must be crazy for choosing Strats. I wouldn't second guess those players, everyone one of them plays circles around me. You'll notice I didn't include the thousands of well-known players that have used Strats on an occasional basis.

Re: Favorite Fender Guitars

Get over yourself, I own a strat and love it, if you can't recognise a tongue in cheek comment that's your problem not mine,

If you going to go postal over a internet post that's on you not me.

Now I'm asking you politely let it go please, this is the third thread you've followed me to, to troll me,

I get it you don't like LP juniors, or acoustics I respect your position, I do NOT insist you change your opinion to suit mine, I do NOT insist you should change your listening preferences. I do NOT think you're crazy for disagreeing with me.

It beggars belief I have to post this

I do however think this little feud you've manufactured with me is pathetic, can we stop now, this is not what either of us are here for?

Re: Favorite Fender Guitars

Strats aren't just Fender's biggest seller, the design is the world's biggest seller. Leo hit a home run with this one. I don't know how anyone 'in their right mind' could argue otherwise.

True but they both have their merits. I love the Tele live. It is bare bones and straight forward. Pretty much a slab of wood and a pickup you can bash the hell out of. The Tele has a special vibe when you are playing it.

Re: Favorite Fender Guitars

No vote.I couldnt pick a fave among the tele or strat. Different tools, awesome in their own way, and generally cover each other's shortcomings.

Nice thing is you can find a good example of each, and buy both for a reasonable expenditure.

Absolutely. Every guitar design has something going for it. As far as what the world's picked, Strats come out on top. The versatility of 3 PU's and a vibrato bar offer a lot, which is why Hendrix said they were the only real choice for what he was doing.

Re: Favorite Fender Guitars

So did Knopfler, Blackmore, and even Gilmour... Some of the best stuff Knopfler ever did was on a Tele I.M.H.O. & Just because you see Gilmour with a Strat 99% of the time on stage doesn't mean that's all he uses while recording? The Wall solo was done on a 55 Gold Top with P-90's in it, Shine On You Crazy Diamond was all Tele along with most of the earlier stuff Sid did with them before he got sick and Dave joined up?

Dude, I've been going to threads with titles like these for the past 10 years. Been here much longer than you. What threads you go to is of absolutely no interest to me. Don't even remember seeing you here before, but what I've seen in the past week is you telling people what kind instruments they should own and what kind of music they should play. Comments like that will get responses, and none of those have been out of line. If you don't want to get the responses, don't make those kind of comments. Anyone else saying that is likely to get dissenting responses, we shouldn't have to tip toe around you. Respect us enough to make those decisions for ourselves. We can all get along. That's all. Pretty simple.

blueman335 and regan:

Blueman's right, you can get along. Shut up and pick a color.

Get my analogy? None of this actually has any consequence, in fact I didn't even want to talk about Telecasters, just put it in the poll. I'm really much more curious about the more obsolete colors like Jaguars and Mustangs.

Is this what this is about? have I sat in your favourite bar stool?

Where and how? If there are particular statements I've made that demonstrate this make me aware of them and I'll delete them and apologise otherwise I'd appreciate it if you didn't throw these accusations around

No-one asking you to, funnily enough respect is a two way street and you appear to be the only person demanding respect from others, strange that

At this point, I would like to interject with a quotation from the pickup selector ring in Kam's avatar.

STFU/GTFO.

Re: Favorite Fender Guitars

Lighten up please gentlemen. I'm having a nice peaceful weekend and would much rather it not be spoiled by petty bickering. It may be a holiday weekend, but I'm just as comfortable dishing out infractions as well as chocolate eggs! :)

Re: Favorite Fender Guitars

Hey look! I found someone who likes Jazzmasters!

I haven't even heard of J Mascis or Dinosaur Jr., but this popped up on my Facebook feed and I hade to check it out. Jazzmasters are kind of the big oddballs, right? Standard scale length, but same body as the Jaguar. Weird pickups, nothing like standard Strat or Tele - are they just supersized P90s, or are they thinner and making up for it with breadth? I haven't played on in a while, so I wouldn't know. I really do like that shape, though. They're weird but cool.

Admittedly, that's one of the things I like a lot about Teles. "Telecaster" at this point just kind of refers to the shape of the body and headstock - so many options as the Tele provides are not readily available to Strats to be sure. One thing that's making me hesitate on buying that 60's Strat I want is the lack of a hollow body. I love the Strat sound and repetoire so much, but I also really like feedback! I could have it chambered, but that costs A LOT. Might be worth it in the long run, though...

Another thing I'm less fond of about the Stratocaster is the vibrato bridge being so thoroughly a part of the guitar. I kind of want to find a Bigsby or something similar that's been fitted for a Strat. Know any sources?

thats what Im saying. Jeff Beck and Clapton went to Strats because thats what Hendrix played. Beck never stopped using teles he just uses Strats more.
Its like Page , his number 1 is a LP but he still plays teles.

I dont think any of those guys would vote 1 over the other. Instead they would vote their number 1 which might happen to be an LP. But they wouldnt
insist its better than a tele. I think Knopfler et al would put a tele on the same level as a strat regardless of what he plays more.

Only internet people put guitars on pedestals. Pros see them as tools. whatever tool they need for the job at hand is what they use.
there are outliers like albert collins who literally only ever played 1 guitar his whole career. (technically he had 2, fender made him a custom shop version of his original tele)
but most pros are more Bennetton types.

Re: Favorite Fender Guitars

Nobody likes Jaguars, Mustangs, or Jazzmasters cause they are fugly. Just face it.

I don't mind the body shape, but the clutter of hardware and switches on a standard Jag or Jazzmaster is unappealing visually. Now these are MUCH better.

Re: Favorite Fender Guitars

As for the poll - I'm torn 50/50 on Strat vs. Tele. They are the peanut butter/chocolate combo of the guitar world.
