Re: favorite guitar wood?

Hmmm... that's a tough question for me. I like plenty of them, so I have to get back to you on that.

Well, the Grosh I'm in love with and my Gibson I love, so I'll go with mahogany back/maple top :)

Re: favorite guitar wood?

I Voted Mahogany w/Maple cap, but On the necks I´m constantly switching between 25.5" maple with an ebony board, 24.75" mahogany neck with Rosewood, and any combination of the above. :D:D

Re: favorite guitar wood?

you dont got korina up there, but since my main guitar is mahogany w/ maple top im gonna have to go with Koa :)

Re: favorite guitar wood?

My favorite guitar is basswood with a maple neck and rosewood fretboard.

Actually, it's not, but can you guess what it is (it's completly stock)?

Maple (unfinished) thin (similar to a wizard) neck w/rosewood fingerboard
24 jumbo frets
25.1" scale

Basswood body
Contoured heel and neck pocket
S/S/H routed (no pickguard)
Kahler Spyder double locking trem
Gotoh tuners

Factory Singles
DiMarzio Super Distortion w/coil tap

It's a Fender Stratocaster.

No really, it is. :)

Re: favorite guitar wood?

not too many ppl are into the exotic woods like koa, goncalo alves, etc... including myself lol never tried those, but I like mahogany/maple top like my ibanez!!

Re: favorite guitar wood?

I prefer Alder with maple necks, or maple with a rosewood board.

I like the tone of basswood, but there's not quite enough sustain for me and it's too soft.

Les Pauls with their Mahog/Maple bodies are classic. Perfect combo! Don't USA Jacksons do that, too?

IO agree. BTW: Jackson does that on some models, notably the archtops. BUt most of the axes are alder with a "Drop Top" (too thick for a veneer, but too thin to really be considered a top ;))

Re: favorite guitar wood?

You could've used that "your mom" choice for something else dude :). I like balance and sustain, in fact I think those are the key elements to a versatile guitar. I like mahogany, but I like Korina more, it's more musical like Blueline said, it might be hard to believe in fact I sometimes have trouble believing it. Mahogany is pretty cool, sustains well, but is too warm (too much, bass and mids) to really be versatile. I think solid maple caps help it balance out, but for optimal balance get a hard maple neck as well. You'll get the best of both worlds; balance and sustain. Because I think most pick ups tend to sound bassy, and Ebony fingerboard is prefered, it's sharp crunchy and feels amazing!

I voted Mahogany w/ maple neck, because it comes closest to my ideal :)
