Favorite Jazz size picks

Been playing a variety of versions. From standard Jazz III's and Maxgrips to Tortex and Ultex. I switch quite often but I'm sold on the size. No big deal, I don't exclusively prefer any one. I did notice that the Ultex sometimes has an annoying click to it when I'm picking downward. I know picks are purely a preference so I'm still sort of experimenting.

0.5mm tortex or delrin pointed jazz shaped picks (usually Dunlop, but I'll grab a pack of Traynor picks of the same variety if I can't find Dunlops).

They're pink. and a little bit floppy. I like em.

I like the ultex personally because the don't slip out of my hand as easily as the regular jazz IIIs

I've tried a ton recently. Besides the regular Jazz IIIs the Tortex Pitch Black Jazz III is my favorite hands down.

The red Jazz IIIs are nylon, whereas the black Jazz IIIs are delrin. I prefer the reds. They seem a bit more flexible, or at least not as stiff.

I tried the Fender teardrops years ago, but can't get along with them.

Also tried the smoother Ultex Jazz IIIs (purple), but they're a bit slippery for me. They also flex a bit, which is both good and bad.

For those who do use the purple ones, do you file the edges down before using them? I had to do that to mine since I pick at an angle, and the squared edges always gave me fits.

I swear by Brossard Picks. The harmonics are bell like and they float across the strings.

Try the planet waves black ice picks. They are slightly larger than the standard jazzIII shape, but smaller than the XL. The edges are rounded nice and smooth.

I've been using the new Petrucci picks since they came out and I absolutely love them. They're just a bit taller than the regular Dunlop Jazz picks, but I like them even more.

I like the yellow ultex Jazz IIIs the best. They don't seem to last as long as the red ones though. . .

I use the H3 Purple Tortex ones. I can't stand anything else.

I like the red Max-Grip Jazz 3, as well as the carbon fiber MGs. I like the Ultex 2.0s except for the fact they DON'T come in Max-Grip... if they did come that way, I'd be a happy panda.

I went through quite a bit of testing with jazz picks, and tried most of the ones mentioned, except ironically the red Jazz IIIs ....
I liked the Black Ice -- they have a somewhat soft tone and nice texture and feel.

however, I highly recommend trying the Pickboy jazz picks ... they are just slightly larger than most Dunlops, in a good way -- actually, I think the Pickboys and the Black Ice are about the same size.
I have both the smooth black ones, and the ones with the grip holes. I tried a few different thicknesses, and personally prefer the 1.2. One thing I like about these is the edges are nicely finished, so they feel good against the string ... it's a little hard to explain until you try one
If you don't know , Pickboy has kind of a fan base ... they're made in Japan and have sometimes been hard to get. At one time, they were known for they're real tortoise shell -- when it was still legal. :-\
Check Osiamo.com, probably the main US distributor. You can also find smaller batches on Ebay. Expensive- kind of; worth it - definitely.

The green Jazz IIIs are ultex, but thinner than the purple/black/red. I do like those, too.

I love the small pointed V-Picks. They are pretty thick @ 2.75mm but they have a great tone.
