i love this discussion i get alot of ideas from them so here it goes...

what pedal(s) can you guys not live without?

I can live without any pedals at all, and usually don't use anything between my guitar and amp except a good cord.

But my favorite overdrive pedal of them all is the Boss DS-1...unmodded. The secret is to dial in a great tone from the DS-1 and then leave it on all the time and lower the volume on your guitar to go from scream to clean.

The best wah wah, IMO, is the Fulltone Clyde and the best Fuzzface type distortion unit, IMO, is the Fulltone '69. Together, it's instant Jimi Hendrix time.

My favorite pedals are my gold Klon Centaur, old ADA Flanger,
and Line 6 Delay. I don't step on the ADA a lot, but the sound that comes out of it is otherworldly - from swizzle stick to jet engines! Killer! The Line 6 delay is probably the best selling
"classic" of our time. It's sometimes hard to believe it's a modeler, it sounds so good.

The Klon speaks for itself. It'll sit side by side with the TS-808
as the best two OD's in history.

Another vote for the line 6 delay.

But my personal desert island fave is the G2D Classic overdrive. The best overdrive I've ever, ever heard.

Right now...probably my Dunlop Crybaby Wah.

The DS-1 is in a close second, but I've got to use it a little more to actually make a sound judgment.

Of all time though, I'd probably say my Boss DD-3 Digital Delay.

My G2D Custom Overdrive

For high-gain my G2D Morpheus comes 2nd, then my Boss DD-3 in 3rd place

Lots of cool things can be done with a decent volume pedal. Silent tuning, guitar switching, or in combination with delays and reverbs, synth-like swells. Makes for an unusual-sounding guitar solo. :)

Hey Lew,
Do you use a newer DS-1 or an older Made in Japan model DS-1?

i got a made in taiwan ds-1 and to be completely honest i hate the pedal with a passion. i am selling it on ebay right now because it just doesn't have a useful sound in it's whole range. that being said i think my boss metal zone is my most needed pedal. Gives me a great hard metal sound

My Vox V848 wah, looooove it.

I also love my line 6 MM-4 Modulation modeler, that thing is suh-weeeet.

The DS1 isn't really the right pedal for chunky and crunchy power chords for metal playing...It's more of a classic rock Marshall JCM 800 sought of tone...Personally I don't like a stock DS1 because to me it's too bright overall...The tone control has to be kept back between fully off and about 9 o/clock max to tame the highs, has fuzzy stuff riding over notes, and just sounds too solid state and hi fi sounding unless it's tweaked..It's a much more usable pedal in my opinion after these tweaks, but that's just me.. ;)

My favorite pedal overall is probably a good sounding Tube Screamer..I don't have any really expensive pedals but I'm really liking this reissue TS 808...It covers my blues/classic rock styles nicely and cuts right while retaining some note clarity for leads and for chording...It's still one of the best pedals ever made and copied by everyone! :D

i plan on getting the turbo version of the tube screamer any day now for still a great distortion but something a little less powerfull then i have my metal zone setup as

My favorite pedal is my TC Electronics chorus/pitch shifter/ flanger. I don't use the flanger, but I couldn't live without the other two.

pedals

pedals

Kendrick Buffalo Pfuz... very clean and transparent
Fulltone '70... bright and fruity, a fuzz face with a grin
Fulltone Soulbender... really manic, but a great tone anyway

I have several pedals...BOSS...DOD...etc...But I tend not too use them...I go for that straight thru the amp type of sound. Out of all my pedals I probably like my Ibanzez TS9 DX the best though.
