Favorite Phasers

Re: Favorite Phasers

Script Phase 90 and EHX Small Stone are the classics that most others are based off of. I really like the Red Witch Moon Phaser and Homebrew Psilocybe. I really want to try a Whetstone though!

Re: Favorite Phasers

I really like the MXR EVH Phase 90. I usually prefer script mode, but I use block once in a while and it's nice to have both.

+1 on the Red Witch. My brother used to have one and you could cop Phase 90 sounds with it, or get pretty close to David Gilmour's Univibe sound from Breathe.

Another to consider is the Retrosonic. It's based on a Phase 90, but it much more tweakable.

Re: Favorite Phasers

The phasers in my Strymon Mobius are INCREDIBLE. Seriously, it's one of my favorite parts of it.Before i had the Mobius, I had an INFANEM Compact Faye Sing. If you're interested in a phaser that doesn't sound like all the other phasers, get this. It sounds incredible. It's also got a ton of useful features, including expression control. You can even halt the phaser sweep and use the expression pedal (or speed knob) to sweep the filter and get an awesome phase-wah effect.

This one is my favourite, the Maestro PH1:

Re: Favorite Phasers

The EVH from MXR really gets a lot of love.

I have a Berhinger that I pretend is an EVH. I'm not a mega Phase guy though.

I'm seriously thinking about a Phase 45 for a more subtle vibe.

Re: Favorite Phasers

Maestrophase is my fave. The original, and best tones.

Early MXR stuff. And IME,.Whirlwind Orange Box is the best original MXR type out there today.

I am looking into getting an EHX as they are based on the Maestro circuit

Re: Favorite Phasers

I just picked up a 1975 MXR Script Phase 90. It's my favorite of all time. And I've been through the MXR EVH, Block Logo 90, VFE, Mojo Hand, Whirlwind, Mr. black, Strymon Mobius.. Etc.. It just has the nice warm chewy tone that is great but never covers up your original tone.

Re: Favorite Phasers

My first ever effects pedal (a gift from one of my brothers) was a Ross Phaser. I still have it, and even used it just last night. The Recycle control makes this a more versatile unit than the MXR. You can really get your swoosh on with it.

Re: Favorite Phasers

I'm a phase 90 fan. I'm on the lookout for a good deal on a vintage one. One day I may settle on an EvH or a script RI. They just came out with a new one that has dual phasing, phase 99 I believe.

But if you wanna go cheap and get a block phase 90 they're great, but can be a little harsh. But you can easily mod them to smooth them out.

Re: Favorite Phasers

I've got a Russian Small Stone that's rad but never gets used and a Phase 45 that's just as cool but also never gets used!

The only thing in the phaser family I use much is a Uni Vibe clone.

Re: Favorite Phasers

I'll take that Phase 45 off your hands for twenty bones…

And you know - there is a reason the phase 90 has been around forever. It's just great all around.

Re: Favorite Phasers

I had a block logo 90 which was a little overbearing until I did the Mod, then I got a deal on a whirlwind orange box and it was an all round more pleasing sound so I gave the block to a mate. Then I got a phase 45 too and whilst it is more subtle it's a very sweet sound indeed and I tend to use it more with my electro acoustic to add a little colour when required.

Re: Favorite Phasers

I also have a vintage Phase 45 which is very cool, I prefer it to the agressive 90 when I'm playing solo. However, it seems to get lost in the mix with others, unless you want a very subtle coloring of the tone (which is cool too).
