Favorite Picks and Gauge

I used ultex (of various thickness and a couple of different shapes) for over a decade. After another recent thread on picks here, I tried out the Flow series, which are still made of ultex, but also have grippy bits and they have been my go-to ever since.

Fwiw, I also tried the Primetone, which I think are just Flows with polished edges. Still good, but I prefer the attack on the non-polished versions.

Ah hello! :D

Metal picks are also to be had, but- I've never tried one. I think they will give a very bright and metallic sound ;).

Id avoid these, I tried them long ago and about the only thing I accomished waa gaining a fear of gouging the finish on my guitar. They do sound metallic and brihht but I didnt find it a good sound. I stopped using them shortly after I got them for the above reasons, esp the gouging part.

I moved on to the smallest of the Fender Jazz teardrop picks and now use the carbon Dunlop jazz picks

I use metal flat picks on my tenor banjo, but I've not liked them on any other instruments.

I like standard Jazz IIIs but the red material is slippy when my hands get sweaty. Ultex or the purple/green Kirk Hammett signature Jazz IIIs don't have this problem, so they're what I've been using for a long time..

Ive played 1.5mm gator grips for 20 years til a friend gave me a couple Petrucci 2mm flow plectra. They are outstanding.
Call me a 2mm guy.

Lately I've been using, Dunlop Tortex Red Triangles .50. I also really like the Clayton Acetal Rounded Triangles.38 thru .63 but the .50 is my go to from them now too.

I rarely use a pick. I try to do the Wes Montgomery thumbnail style. But I just discovered two that I like. One is some weird stiff "felt-ish" material that's nice for bass. The other, appears to be stainless steel, .52mm or 1/64", that really sounds good. I'm surprised by how mellow it is. My conventional "plastic/delrin" picks have a snap to them that's audible. (It might not be heard in a recording.) But I love the stability and smoothness of this SS pick. I think I'm going to use it more.

.88 tortex or .90 ultex. i like the tone of fender heavy or extra heavy but i shred them so fast i can barely make it through a set with one

Used to use Dunlop Gator Grip .71mm, but got tired of rounding them off and all of the purple dust on my guitars. Now I like Dunlop Ultex .73mm

I have switched between Tortex 1 mm (blue) and Fender Heavy over the years, but tend to lean towards the former as I wear out the latter quicker. I also really liked the picks Schaller used to sell, but they were always hard to get and I don't think they make them any more.
