Re: Favorite "Shred" guitar brand?

Back in the 80's, I think Hamer had their own unique look, whereas a lot of other guitar makers were trying to mimic Kramer or Jackson designs (which I think are great BTW).
The Hamer boomerang fretboard inlays, the body sculpting on the Californian model, the extended fretboard range on the Californian (27 frets on the high E), the stock Duncan Parallel Axis pickups or OBL pickups (as well as the earlier Dimarzio-produced Hamer Slammer pickups), the glued in neck versions of some of their models, the flame maple bodies (not tops, but solid broad leaf flamed or quilted maple bodies), their shredder models that weren't Strat or Explorer or V shaped, like the two Steve Stevens signature models they built in the 80's, and other touches kind of gave Hamers a distinctive, hand made, top-of-the-line look among all the other shred guitars around back in those days.

Re: Favorite "Shred" guitar brand?

Caparison. I just said that be different. I hear the'yre fantastic high end shredders though... Outta my reach.
Seriously, a good W@rmoth, or many other brands of Superstrat will shred to pieces. Even a expertly set up stock vintage Strat..ask Yngwie. Other than that, a Koren BC Rich 'Bird plays lightning fast, or even Epiphone Zakk Wlde Les Paul with great fret level and some bigger frets will smoke with superfast runs.
Thats comin' from someone who has 94 Jackson Soloist XL, that sounds really special, and plays very quick, but moreover has that almost intangible somethin' that just compels you to wanna torch the fretboard.

Whenever I think of Hammer Guitars I instantly picture Vernon Reid and old school Living Color.

That was a match made in heaven

Damn...I'd get that Snakeskin Venom first & then work on the others... :lmao:

I am NOT a V fan . . . but i LOVE that thing !

Re: Favorite "Shred" guitar brand?

I'm surprised to see Jackson creeping into first. I would put them last, only ahead of B.C. Rich in my experience...

Re: Favorite "Shred" guitar brand?

There was a time when I would have said Ibanez. But I played a couple at the store the other day and couldn't gel with it. My explorer is my shredder.

Re: Favorite "Shred" guitar brand?

Lots of Jackson fans out there I see. I own 16ish guitars. I have never even played a Jackson.

Re: Favorite "Shred" guitar brand?

I love my Kramer Reverse Headstock Striker. It's a mid-level guitar, but it plays better than almost any other guitar I have. I shaved down the neck, put on a real Floyd and threw in a GFS Crunchy Rails and it sounds great!

Re: Favorite "Shred" guitar brand?

^ Is that an original Kramer, or one of the more recent ones -- Gibson-era, or Music Yo?

Re: Favorite "Shred" guitar brand?

It's one of the MusicYo era Kramers. There were some good deals to be had there, by buying direct.

Re: Favorite "Shred" guitar brand?

Charvel FOR SHRED... although for general purpose it'd be more like 1) ESP japan, 2) Ibanez mij/ Fujigen Gakki, 3) Matsumoku stuff (defunct since late 80s)
