I know there's the legendary polytone, and BB king's lab series, and a few great Roland Jazz chorus amps-What makes these amps great? I've heard some great polytones and the incredibly chime quality they achieve with humbuckers and can't imagine the tone with Singles.

Anybody own any of these? What are their strong points besides headroom and portability? how much $$$$?

When I think of great JAZZ guitar tone... I think of Wes. He played thru a modded BF Princeton. When I think of Killer blues tone... I think of guys like Clapton on the Beano album. None of those tone can be had by ANY SS AMP!!! But I do believe That for some things the Roland Jazz Chorus is a nice AMP, and so are the "old" Ploytones.

The Tech 21 Trademarks are my favourite SS amps for any style of music.

polytones never sounded good. people used them because they were light and could be carted on the subway easily.

Strangely enough, I really like the way my SWR Strawberry Blonde sounds with a clean electric. I just turn the tweeter off and adjust the EQ to tasted.

the roland cubes arent bad for ss. i dont really like the lab series all that much, not bad but not great. people like polytones cause they are light and portable and small enough to take in a cab and you can sorta get an ok jazz tone.
the jazz chorus are kinda sterile to my ears
