Oh, no doubt -it was just the poser rig growing up on the younger scene -I can think of plenty of albums that used it with great effect

Gallien Kruger and Trace Elliot. GK had that strange stereo lunchbox style head with two little speakers but an obscene amount of power that when run through a 4x12 sounds good. Marshall also had a series of solid state amps before the valvestate that were basically the Marshall Governor tone section and with a tube screamer they covered just about everyhting from the 70's through the 90's.

The Rockman was often used as a thickener rather than as a primary amp. Basically they multitracked and one track was the rockman at lower volume and it was there to fatten up the rest. Three albums I can think of that must have done it are Dokken Lock and Key, Ratt Invasion or privacy and Alice in Chains Dirt.

Maybe not iconic ..& not strictly SS either (it's got a full tube preamp & a 12AT7 buffered power section)..but it's a killer amp for the brutez (will do a lot more too..). Very Punchy & dynamic & can go from super smooth mids for shred/80's metal etc.. to early Entombed style buzz-saw death metal awesomeness thanks to the "density" & mid-level/mid-sweep controls & killer boost..
Single track from the mic (Audio Technica MBk2) into my handheld digital recorder's line input...raw amp tone/no effects. This is just the brutez :bigthumb:

If no one else mentioned it, Music Man amps had solid state preamps and tube power amps. But the distortion you get from them is mostly from the preamp.
They make great pedal platforms run clean.

The Sunn Coliseum Was a very popular amp in the 70s. Fantastic piercing tones.

I had a Coliseum bass amp at one time. Sunn and Acoustic were the most popular bass amps in the 70s.

A lot of people have said good things about the Peaveys. Every one that I played through or heard, I thought sounded like crap.

I have a Coluseum and a 300T both will blow your D*ck off.
The legendary Acoustic 300 series amps and Ampeg SVTs are the other amps that stand with a similar tonal legacy IMO.... Yorkvilles too

To be fair that was a pretty one-dimensional demo..
It's a metal amp ..no doubt about that...but it's a really versatile one & can nail just about any kind of metal tone out there.
This dude did a really nice comprehensive demo with his .. well recorded too (as opposed to my dinky handheld recorder :laugh2
