Tangential to the thread...(aren't all my posts? :laugh2: )

I'm not really too fam with the BB1/2...but the Pros def have that slight murkiness factor...which I actually prefer...they still bite and scream though...I guess due to mismatched wind..but they are not overly bright or twangy like the 59s. I also find the BB pros as complex as the 59s(never have played antiquities tho) but that may be due to the more complex mids of the Paula vs. the Hamer....The BB pros are more "hard rock" and the 59s are more classic rock/bluesy..more sweet and not terribly aggressive.

BB also def sound better WITHOUT covers. Noticeable difference...more open...a bit less murky.

That is all

Roger

Over..

Hey you hijacker! Quit talking about Gibson pickups and non-hybrid pickups on my thread! :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Re: Favourite PAFish Pickup

I can't wait to get my hybrids going. BachToRock hooked me up. I have problems with shipping to my house though so I had 'em shipped to my folks house. Haven't had a chance to stop by so they're probably just sitting there waiting for me. :gurmpy:

Mine are going in frankenstrats for now, but I have a brand new Tokai LS-150 Les Paul that needs p'ups too. Maybe I'll try your secret recipe there, Strat. Do you prefer one coil over another in a given position? Do you put the Custom or 59 coil closer to the bridge?

The 59B/Custom and the 59N/Jazz Hybrids are great! You'll more than likely dig em alot...:beerchug: Welcome to the Hybrid club..:)

It's pretty hard to beat Seymour's products overall....The only other company winding as long or longer,is Dimarzio....
Fender, Gibson, Rickenbacker, and Gretsch have all been at it much longer... they´re just not targeted as aftermarket pickups ;)

Yes your right buddy...I'm speaking strictly about after market winders..

Re: Favourite PAFish Pickup

Here are a few of my fav's: First off, Jon Moore humbuckers. One word.....AMAZING!!!...

Manlius. while a bit hotter wind than classic PAF's, these babies are so toneful it's scary. Excellent pickups.

Dimarzio Classic PAF's. It may have been the guitar I had them in, but I actually prefer these to the VV PAF's.....but, the VV PAF's are also very good.

Duncan Seth Lover. One of my all time favorite humbucker pickups. Ditto with the Antiquites.

Lollar Imperials are incredible...just out of my price range at the time being!

Re: Favourite PAFish Pickup

Quite happy with my 59's! I have a set in my Tele and one in the bridge of my Strat and I don't feel the need to try anything else. The only other pickup I would consider is Gibson's 57 Classics which I had and loved in the LP I used to own. I play both clean and distorted music and the 59's cover both of those sounds + I don't like to have mismatched volumes between pickups so I would not care to try a "Custom" variation. Everyone in the 80's had Super Distortion's in their LP's and you can't get a decent clean sound with them.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Re: Favourite PAFish Pickup

If you guys were going to put a set of the SD 50th Anniv. Seth's in an LP (mahogany body/maple top) would you go with the A2 or A5 set. The MF catalog says the A5's would be for this wood and the A2's for warming up a bright guitar. Would you all agree?

Re: Favourite PAFish Pickup

Can someone post a link to the Seth Lover fiftieth anniversary info? I had
a Seth neck in a 335-like guitar and it sounded fantastic. Despite the A2
magnet, it was very bright and chimy, which I attributed to not being
potted. I was going to get some for an Epi LP and was planning on getting
Seths for the vintage smoothness. Maybe I'll consider them with A5 if
I can see more description???

thanks
