Fearless Gear Review: LINE 6 SPIDER V

Re: Fearless Gear Review: LINE 6 SPIDER V

I really disliked the Spider 1 I had years ago... It was a quality amp but overall sounded somewhat muddy/smudged. The worst offense to me though, was that changing pickups (neck/bridge,) or even switching guitars had almost no effect; it was like playing a synth and using the guitar as a trigger. It never felt "real" and inhibited/negated for better or worse any need to experiment with different pickups, pedals etc.

Sure, I can obtain better sounds using an interface, a monitor and GarageBand with my Macbook... But to be fair, at $200 you could wind up with a few things that sound worse than that new Spider.

Forgot that it came out on sunday, watched it instantly yesterday. The part where they're pssing around the hammer is ****ing hilarious

Re: Fearless Gear Review: LINE 6 SPIDER V

Well, that was really stupid. I get you don't like the amp. So do your review and then give it away. Donate it to a school that has no music budget or to a poor kid. With the all the materials that went in to build it, and all the waste that we produce, give me one good reason to justify destroying it.

Re: Fearless Gear Review: LINE 6 SPIDER V

I agree there, no need for the waste, very spoiled of us as a society to be ok with it or find humor in wanton destruction of resources. But the sad fact is that it occurs so often and in so many ways that I no longer find it worth pointing out.

I gave mine to someone :)

Re: Fearless Gear Review: LINE 6 SPIDER V

You have to realize who Glenn is. Normally, he doesn't destroy gear...just harps on it and sells it/ gives it away. But the ONE thing he hates the most is Line 6 Spiders.

Laugh a little.

Re: Fearless Gear Review: LINE 6 SPIDER V

Oh, don't get me wrong. The guy knows his stuff. He started great with the tutorials on recording and I'm looking forward to his "mixing drums" series of videos. But for every good tutorial video he produces 50 self-righteous "stupid texts from..."/"Q&A" videos. So overall quality of his channel is pretty low (at leas for me).

We're all allowed our sensitivities :) I'm not equipped to judge the economics of a YouTube personality trashing an amp vs. not, hell, perhaps more of the money made from the video will go toward charity/donation than otherwise. I guess it wouldn't have been the first thing to cross my mind as humor, were I in that scenario.

Someone is clearly a frustrated "artist".

Re: Fearless Gear Review: LINE 6 SPIDER V

If I was 14, I would probably think this guy was super cool.

As an adult, I say sub a "t" for the "c" in "cool". Angsty trash mouth long hair has-been metawl dewdz are funny, but not in the way he hopes he is.

kinda funny - wow, the muppet paster or whatever sounded pretty bad. I'm not into destroying stuff that works though, that part was hella dumb. Give it to a freakin' kid starting out or goodwill.

To make an awesome Office Space reference. I get the feeling you didn't get it.

I'm still soaking in, and highly enjoying, the vid title.

I have no idea who glenn is, but am looking forward to finding out....

Re: Fearless Gear Review: LINE 6 SPIDER V

He's the AVGN for metal production

Except the AVGN isn't a smug *******.

I watch Glenn's videos - some are entertaining, and sometimes I learn something. I'm not offended by what he says - I wouldn't watch if I was - and on occasion I strongly disagree with him. He's not always wrong/he's not an idiot - he's just an *******, and he strokes his own ego when he spends half of the runtime in his viewer's comments responding to hate comments with his "witty" comebacks. I'd like to take him/his channel more seriously, but I can't when he's pretty much halted actual content (about once every two weeks - things like mixing tutorials) in favor of viewers comments videos (at least once a week; sometimes more), and how he decides to act like an even more cynical Comic-Book Guy and indulge in it. A little humility would go a long way - I get that he wants to add a comedic element to his videos - but the best comedians have always been extremely modest and humble: Jon Stewart, George Carlin, Stephen Colbert, John Oliver, Louis CK, etc. The worst comedians were always the ones to pat themselves on the back for each "punchline" (Amy Schumer). He currently falls more into the habits of lesser comedians, and I think he's kind of holding himself back from growing out of his plateau-ing niche because of his self-indulgence - and I think he doesn't realize it. I'd like nothing more than to see him improve, and that wouldn't necessarily mean changing the very core of his material - it would mean he just shouldn't buy into his own hype.

Re: Fearless Gear Review: LINE 6 SPIDER V

I do agree with the fact he now does too many readers comments/ stupid text videos instead of actual gear reviews/ tutorials....hell, how long as the how to record/ mix heavy drums been going on for?

I know not everyone likes him, but I appreciate his honestly. I know a couple people who have dealt with him and he definitely plays up the smugness just to get his point across and stick to the point, kind of like essay writing...even though there are counterpoints, you are going to stick to your argument to persuade the reader. After spending so many years dealing with musicians (in a mid-level studio no less) I don't blame him for being so bitter hahaha.

As for the AVGN comment, yes your 100% right, I was just referring more to the angry part than anything. James Rolfe is incredible and Cinnemassacre produces high quality content constantly.
