all i know is old metallica duncan distortion, invader, new metallica EMG 81's
old iron maiden super distortions
old judas super distortions

Re: fellow metal players Post a metal band and what pu's they use?

Slayer - Kerry King EMG-81 (and EMG-PA2 for lead boosts)
Slayer - Jeff Hanneman EMG-81???
Metallica - James Hetfield EMG-81
Metallica - Kirk Hammet EMG-85/60
Ozzy/Black Label Society - Zakk Wylde EMG-81/85

These next ones are stereotypes I have stuck in my head. I could be out to lunch, and I don't really follow the gear close enough to know the names of who used them.

80's hair metal - DiMarzio Super Distortion

Alot of modern metal - Seymour Duncan JB, DiMarzio Super Distortion

Nu-Metal - JB, PAF Pro, Drop Sonics,

Old Symphony X = Dimarzio X2Nbridge, ToneZonebridge (but in neck position)

New Symphony X = EMG81 bridge, dunno about neck.

Dream Theater = Dimarzio Steve's Special, Dimarzio Air Norton... or custom models based on those.

Megadeth = Duncan JB in bridge and neck.

Rhoads era Ozzy Osbourne = Duncan Distorsion bridge, JB neck.

Nope. It's the other way around. Kirk uses dual 81's and James uses an 85 in the bridge and a 60 in the neck.

In the old days Petrucci used a Tone Zone in the bridge, but switched to Steve's Special.

Re: fellow metal players Post a metal band and what pu's they use?

Black Sabbath = Gibson PAF, Gibson Iommi model
Pantera = Dimebucker (I will no longer field the discussion of "Doesn´t use it" until somebody can finally provide some form of proof other than "i read it on the internet", so don´t get me started unless you have some ;))
Dokken /Lynch Mob = Screamin Demon + JB
Infinite Ending = Custom, Dimebucker, Armstrong SKY, EMG 81+85

Aye, but that was only on the first album, he was using an RG back then... the album had a different singer too.

After that, he was using his Ibanez JPM model... which had the Steve's Special.

I could be wrong... seeings as 'Images and Words' was their first successful album, it wouldn't make sense to say Petrucci was endorsing a signature model by then, but he was definately using an Ibanez JPM in the video to 'Pull me Under' which is from that album.

John Myung was using Tobias basses back then too!

I thought that was just an RG with a fancy paint job. Later the JPM model custom graphics were based on that particular paint job.

I dunno if you wanna consider Tool a metal band, but thats a JB/Jazz, although there's dispute on if it's DD/Jazz now or if Jones uses the Jazz at all... but I stick with JB/Jazz.

:fing25: well lol... there have been a few interviews with Dime that say he used a pup called the XXL-500, but I dont know who made it.... anyway he used that up until or not long before the Reinventing the Steel album... of course I could be wrong about the time, but I'm pretty sure I'm right about the pup. And I know he was sent a few test models of the Dimebucker to test on tour, and he compared those to the XXL-500 that had his sound.

YOU LOSE ZERB!!! lol.. joking..
