fender 2 post vs 6 screw

Re: fender 2 post vs 6 screw

Probably a slight one - biggest difference is feel. 2 post feels smoother to me.

If you're retrofitting, i'd look at the Gotoh 510 TS (Milled Steel Block) bridges. Those I have 2 and 6 screw versions and can't tell a difference in the tone.

Re: fender 2 post vs 6 screw

Doesn't the current Fender 2 post model include vintage style saddles?

Re: fender 2 post vs 6 screw

and if I put vintage saddles on the 2 post?

Real vintage Fender saddles won't fit on a Fender 2-post because the vintage saddles are wider than modern saddles. (If you meant just the bent metal styling with FENDER stamped on them vs the solid block-looking saddles, that's different.)

I haven't used a Callaham kit, so I don't know if they've created a 2-post with a wider plate to accommodate the true vintage saddles.

Re: fender 2 post vs 6 screw

I've given a lot of thought about saddles, base plate, block, bar, setup, and all that for years and years.

And what I learned is that you're much better off practicing your ass off on a strat, learning it inside out, becoming a great strat player, and forgetting about all that strat bridge material bullsh1t.

2 post usually have cast saddles, whereas 6 post have bent steel saddles. The Fender custom shop started putting bent steel saddles on 2 point trems to get the vintage strat tone but tuning stability of a 2 point

Too much hate here... How about some love?

Re: fender 2 post vs 6 screw

6 screws give more contact to the body than 2 posts so, in theory, the 6 screw version would have better sustain. Then again, the Callaham is going to have a massive steel block; a 2-post from him will definitely not be lacking in sustain!

And every American Standard since 2008 is a 2 post with vintage style saddles.

I was waiting for someone to break out this tired and completely subjective argument. Funny how LP wraparound style bridges sustain just fine being a two post floating contact design.

Re: fender 2 post vs 6 screw

My 2 post Jeff beck strat never stayed in tune. My mim strat w 6 point Callaham trem and non locking tuners stays in tune all the time.

Re: fender 2 post vs 6 screw

Never had an issue with ANY 2 post I've owned. That's Floyd Rose, Fender and Gotoh. I realize Fender might have had a bad run for a while, but it does happen. Parts can be replaced.

With the 6 screw - Yes they can be set up to work quite well. However are you really sure the bridge is bearing on all 6 screws?

Here's one guy's viewpoint - who happens to have a lot of street creed.

#1) with 6 screws and minor drill drift , inconsistent screw diameters you will never get all 6 screws to touch the bridge knife edge at the same time
#2) With soft woods like basswood I like to put the screw in, then wick in some ultra thin crazy glue (with screw removed) so there is a sleeve the screw can go into, otherwise they will come loose on basswood
#3) I prefer the new 510 inserts and post compared to 6 screw, with the mass of these posts you get the same transference to the body if the bridge isnt touching the guitar anyway (IE Floating)
#4) Very difficult to make tonal comparisons unless you are doing double blind recording comparisons

Re: fender 2 post vs 6 screw

I never heard of 2-point vs. 6-point would make any tonal difference. But stamped saddles vs. block saddles do make a slight difference.

Re: fender 2 post vs 6 screw

Hi,
I have both. The jeff beck was in poor for tuning, so I noticed it hit the plate on the way toward the saddle. So i drilled out the plate holes snd now the strings dont even touch the inside of the or get even near the plate so now, with the LSR nut and locking tuners it almost never goes out of enough to tell.
My other strat I did the same thing but used a 2 post plate that matches almost exactly on the 2 and 4 screws. I also used super glue on screw hole to keep it strong, actually a lot of super glue and it works as well as my J. Beck model, evan after 10 years they are great!

Re: fender 2 post vs 6 screw

Ive always preferred the feel of the 6 screw bridges, like the way they look too. To be fair though, ive only had one strat with the 2 point and i think it was just a bit of a dud but that turned me off.
