Fender '65 Twin Custom 15 Combo

Re: Fender '65 Twin Custom 15 Combo

Yes---I tried it for steel and guitar. Fail...get a 70's Vibrosonic; much better amp.

Re: Fender '65 Twin Custom 15 Combo

what about the 65 twin with the jensens? mmm jensens

Re: Fender '65 Twin Custom 15 Combo

It seems to me that the 'good' Twins have a more balanced tone; not too trebly, not too bassy. I've only had two or three 'good' ones that really were good sounding amps (still have one of them). Maybe a new '65 can get it with the right speakers/tubes, but I have a feeling that the RI Jensens are probably not the best choice.

I assume you have tried one since you bought one in March...

What do you think of it??

That is exactly why I asked to see if any one else purchased one.

It is very heavy, but then again so is the Twin with 12inch speakers as is the Super Reverb. Not so bad at the beginning of the night but pain after gig time...

To me, it sound better than a Vibrosonic for sure and even a Vibroverb (Gave one away to another SD forum member (Jake) about 4~5 years ago) and I kept the other.

I don't play steel guitar and don't really care for country/western out of Nashville.

I just do not see anyone else using it - that's all!

Re: Fender '65 Twin Custom 15 Combo

They are loud, heavy and clean and IMO the 15 with the Twin sirsuit is not the greatest match up...

If I played steel I might see the point but as is I'd prefer my Twins with a pair of 12's...

All that said, I'd still prefer my amps a little smaller...I think a 1x15 Vibroverb might be one of the best BF Fenders ever...those Bassman, and Pro Reverbs...clean and loud enough to use but not so loud that you can get a little compression.

Loud - Yes
Clean - Yes
Heavy, Fender claims 64 lbs, I believe that it feels more like 100 lbs... Even with it's caster wheels.

Re: Fender '65 Twin Custom 15 Combo

With a better 15", the Twin circuit (at least some of them) sound pretty good. I had one BF with a new baffle and a Celestion G15-80 that worked very well for single coil guitars. You lose some of the dispersion of the 2x12", but the low end was much better. The only reason I mentioned steel was that the Custom 15 was probably originally intended for that use, although it doesn't really cut it. And for the same money as the new model, you can find 70's Vibrosonics all day long; tag board construction, reliable, and easily modded. Try a pair of KT88/6550's in a Twin circuit; big improvement.

Re: Fender '65 Twin Custom 15 Combo

Just voided the warranty on this amp.

Had a local tech install a IEC electrical socket, multiple-voltage power transformer with (Old style) marshall voltage plug-type selector into it.

That way, I can plug it into a 100V, 120V, 220V, and 240V power source.

Still heave as all heck!

Super clean tone and sustain.

Re: Fender '65 Twin Custom 15 Combo

FWIW, I have played Twins (early 70s models) though external 15s (2x12 also running). It was loud and fun.

I used a TS9 w/it.

Re: Fender '65 Twin Custom 15 Combo

i have two baffles for my twin and prefer 2x12 over 1x15. have tried lots of speakers for both setups
