Fender American Deluxe HSS Shawbucker Wiring

Hi all,

I recently got a Fender American Deluxe HSS Shawbucker and I wanted to change the pickups to Duncans TB4 (bridge), STK-S4 (mid), STK-S7 (neck).

This is the wiring diagram from Fender:

Now, could someone please help me color codes between the Fender and the Duncan pickups? As in, what color of the Fender pickups in each position relates to the Duncans.

Thanks so much.

Sorry. I tried for a few minutes. That wiring diagram hurts my brain.

Re: Fender American Deluxe HSS Shawbucker Wiring

Haha, thanks anyway. I figured out the TB4 connections (I think), just gotta figure out the STKs with the N3s.

Re: Fender American Deluxe HSS Shawbucker Wiring

Are you expecting the SD pickups to slot right into the adapted Fender S-1 circuitry?

Re: Fender American Deluxe HSS Shawbucker Wiring

yes, i dont want to rewire anything, just cut the N3 wires and solder them with SD wires.

That wiring diagram hurts my brain.

The Shaw-adapted Fender S-1 wiring does not hurt my brain BUT it is more effort than I am prepared to put in for zero reward.

Also, I find my gut instinct cutting in. You know. Alarms bells. "Unnecessary work." "Ain't broke, don't fix it." That kinda stuff.

How recently? What amplification do you play through? How much use do you make of each of the ten pickup combinations? In short, what is it about this guitar that is failing to satisfy your needs?

I can understand why you might be dissatisfied with the Fender Noiseless pickups but the Shawbucker? If you do not like Shaw's contribution, in my opinion, you have bought the wrong guitar.

The wiring formats are not exactly equivalent. The SD stacked coil replacement pickups for Stratocaster feature an additional wire to take the lower coil out of circuit for selected specialist applications.

If you want to edit the Fender diagram;
Fender white/blue = SD white
Fender black = SD black
Fender green = SD brown (drain)

SD red has no Fender equivalent. Insulate and tuck away neatly somewhere.

All my guitars have SDs. This will be no different.

3 days ago. I play through 5 amps, Soldano SLO 100, Marshall JCM800 and 2466, Mesa Boogie Mark V, and a Blackstar.

I brought the guitar, because of everything else thats on it - the trem, the locking heads, the LSR rollers, beveled neck, switching et al. Sure the Shawbucker is nice, but it's not my thing. No one had the non Shawbucker model either.
