Fender Amp...

I just need a new amp.
Right now I've got a JTM30 and it's great and is my first amp. I love it to bits, but i think i just gotta let it go.
The cleans just aren't as spot on for me as i want it to be. The OD/Dist channel is great, but i just want an amp with great cleans, and i'll let my pedals do the work.

Mates of mine just picked up a british AC15. Sounds amazing. That voxy clean is amazing. Another mate of mine had essentially had a Silverface Twin. And that sounded great as well. I really love both the Voxy and Fenderesque cleans. The dude with the Twin, just bought a C30. AND that also sounded great.

I need a clean amp.
Been looking around, I don't wanna get the same amp as them, as it'd be boring.
Looking for maybe a Fender of some sort. I've always been a fan of the fender bass response and overall roundness and sparkle. The vox is great and seems to be very middy, but is amazing too.
What can you guys offer? Keeping in mind, i don't have a huge budget. I will sell my JTM30 and top up a little.
Price range right now is a new Fender Blues Junior. I'm not sure how much that is in America, but that's approximately how much i will go.

Also keeping in mind i'm in Australia and some Fender Blackface/Silverfaces don't come by that often.
Any help appreciated.

PS. So far been looking at the Fender Blues Juniors and the Hot Rod Deluxe.

Re: Fender Amp...

If you can put your hand on a JTM45 or a clone, I think you'll be pretty happy . The one complaint I get about JTM45 style amps is that you have to really really crank it up to get it to give up the dirty goods. The cleans are sweet. Since you're down under, hit some local shops and look for something along those veins. That style amp is modeled after the venerable Fender Tweed Bassman 4x10. Mr. Marshall took that design and changed a few things, but deep down inside, it's a lot like a Bassman Tweed.

Went back and saw your price range. Not sure what a Blues Jr costs in Australia, but get the Hot Rod. It's all about sweet fendery cleans that amp is. I don't care for its drive channel much, but as a good basic platform for pedals, a Hot Rod is awesome.

Re: Fender Amp...

If you can afford it get a Dr. Z Maz 18 Jr. It's the perfect Fender Clean meets Vox snap I have found. The reason I sold mine is that it reminded me too much of a Fender amp and since I already had my Vibrolux for the Fender thing I let it go.

Re: Fender Amp...

But for the money he's talking about (Not sure though how much a hot rod costs down under), I doubt he'll be able to touch a used Z.

Re: Fender Amp...

Yeah a HRD is in the $700 something ballpark right?? You can get a used Maz for a little over $1000. It's just a few more months to save and a few more visits to the plasma bank. In the end completely worth it!! And good point Scott. Down Under might be a hard place to round up a Z.

You could always buy it from the States. I once shipped a Mesa Boogie Rect-O-Verb combo to a dude in Australia.

Re: Fender Amp...

I do not know much about shipping and pricing when it comes to Australia but since Dr Zs are being talked about, I would look at the Route 66. It gives you those great fat cleans, and creamy distortion with the help of the KT66 tubes. This is one of my favorite amps. Reminds me of a Tweed but with "nicer" "cleaner" distortion.

Blues Juniors are great too, but I don't think they offer the thick clean tones that you are after. Maybe something with a little more power? This is a tough one, but like mentioned before, check our your local shops and just see what they have. You might find a used silverface or something that you may like. Good luck - hope this helps.

Re: Fender Amp...

OK I have the perfect solution for you. Sorry for not realizing this earlier. I can vouch for this setup myself since I have this pedal.

Take the Fender amp of your choice and buy this pedal to do the Vox thing. It actually sounds great IMO!!!!!

Re: Fender Amp...

out of the 2 i'd take the hot rod, sounds waaaay less boxy

but i think what you really want is a supersonic

Re: Fender Amp...

The amps some of you guys have mentioned, i know are great amps. But are probably much too big for me. I'm looking for something around the price range of a Used HRD or a new Blues Junior.

I've mentioned i'm not after an amazing od or distortion channel. I've built up a fair repetoire of pedals which i'm fairly proud of and i believe can do all the od and dist stuff i need them to.

Which brings me to my starting point of, i just need a nice clean to start. Everything else will depend on pedals.

This said, i'd like something smallish. I currently own a JTM30 and that's possibly as big as i'd go.

I'm not really after a boutique amp as it's gonna just blow my budget. Also, some amps are just impossible to find down under. It REALLY SUCKS. Any help would be good... thanks :)

Re: Fender Amp...

Some people mention the DRRI? It's pretty pricey down here. About double the price of the Blues Junior. But if its really a great amp, i can always just stick it out longer with my Marshall. I'm not really looking for something that i'll need to retube and respeaker straight away, as that will be pricey. But i just want something that's pretty decent stock.

Re: Fender Amp...

WOW. a Tweed Blues Jr. is 529 in US! That's CRAZY! In AUS, a new black Blues Jnr is over 950 USD!

MAYBE SOMEONE CAN GET ME ONE THROUGH GC AND SEND IT TO ME. THIS IS INSANE. I HATE PLAYING GUITAR AND LIVING IN AUS...!!!
*ANGERRRR!!*

Re: Fender Amp...

For $950 US, you can have a lot of amp choices here in the states, then have them shipped and pay the customs.

What is the power situation down under? 220, 240, 120?

Re: Fender Amp...

which is where scott comes in

even if he charges a small fee i'd still do that, it makes way more sense

Re: Fender Amp...

im looking at the Crate v15, people say it blows the blues Jr out of the water.

+1 on that, I own the Crate V16 Palomino Series

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Crate-V16-Palomino-15W-Class-A-Tube-Combo-Amp?sku=487826

... I was looking for something in your price range about a year back and I even compared it in the store with a couple of Blues Juniors... I kept coming back to the Crate... don't get me wrong, I know the rep. that Crate has, but this particular tubed series is a totally redeeming line for the company IMO... If you wanted to go a bit larger, the V30 or V32 (I believe) gives you the option of two channels, I get great cleans, and when I throw it into a larger cab it's got GREAT response!

Good luck with your search

Re: Fender Amp...

A friend of mine uses a V30 (I think, it's a 2x12 covered in tweed, a new Crate) and it sounds great.

benx3, I'm in the same boat as you. I'd like a nice, clean amp (though I'd like a little bit of amp break up), Fendery, but there doesn't seem to be one for me. I'm not a huge fan of the DRRI, plus it's pretty expensive. The Hot Rod Deluxe/Deville/Blues Deluxes are loud and when they break up, they're even louder. I've got a Blues Junior right now that I kind of like, but it has this harsh treble thing going on, and the reverb is kind of eh. Hope you can find something that works for you... and then you can tell me what it is!
