Fender AV65 Jaguar Pickups

Hi,

I've just got a 2nd hand Road Worn Jaguar that had a JB jr in the bridge. I'm going to reinstall the original AV65 pickup but noticed that neck AV65 pickup installed has a white wire and the bridge AV65 pickup to install has a yellow wire.

According to the Seymour Duncan wiring diagram they should be the other way around. Does it matter or are the pickups the same (i did see on the Fender site that both pickups have the same spec of 6.8K and 3.2 Henries)?

Thanks

Si

Re: Fender AV65 Jaguar Pickups

That's unusual for both pickups to have the same DC resistance etc. , although my Japanese Jaguar also had matched 6.8k DC resistance pickups, non-RWRP with no clear bridge or neck... Maybe it's a "thing." Googling, it's not easy to determine whether the AV 65s are hum cancelling combined or not.

The box claims different EQ for each, but I'm uncertain whether that's accurate based on the (as you state) equal numbers; could be they're just saying "a bridge pickup is brighter!" My guess is that it doesn't matter what pickup is where. How do you know which is the neck and bridge as it is? Are they just labeled?

They are not labelled. One has yellow wire the other has black and according to the SD wiring diagram the yellow is the neck pup.

I just noticed on the picture above that it says "cloth-covered neck pickup wire and shielded bridge pickup wire" To me the seem the same.....?

I'd be cautious looking at a Duncan diagram and Fender pickups... Colors of wires are often different between brands.

Re: Fender AV65 Jaguar Pickups

if you put the two pups top to top (face the pole pieces toward each other) do they attract or repel? thatll tell ya if they are rw/rp which is kinda what id guess. duncan and fender (or anyone else) dont necessarily have the same color wires

Re: Fender AV65 Jaguar Pickups

Often the wire colour is to tell one pickup from another. With strats the middle will often be yellow to tell it from the neck (which often share K ratings).
And for goodness sake don't use Duncan diagrams for Fender pickups. Your first port of call for the diagram should be the Fender website.

Yeah, one of the things that isn't standard among pickup makers is wire color. Many people combine pickups from different makers, but assume the wires do the same thing (which is a smart assumption, really) but then something goes wrong since the wires do something very different.
