Fender Designer

Re: Fender Designer

I have to admit I like the idea of that, after designing a guitar and seeing the retail price listed.

Another way of doing it is to buy almost exactly the guitar you want in their catalog, then replacing a part or two. You just have to swap authentic Fender parts.

Re: Fender Designer

Looks like the start of a Warmoth-type expansion. As long as their guitars carry the brand name "Fender" they are likely to take a chunk of business away from others. At the very least I think it's good to see more and more options like this available in the guitar market. Custom design (without the custom price we are all used to) is working well for guitars and for pickups (at least it seems so for SD). Great options these days for guitar players!

Re: Fender Designer

I really like the idea, but at the moment the options suck. Very few colours, can't get black hardware, pickup choices are super limited, can't get coloured knobs . . . :P

Re: Fender Designer

Wow pretty cool... Seriously add more custom colors (like 3 times the current offering) and that's a great way to get exactly the Fender you want. Both the Vintage and Modern American models have some great options including the Hot Rod vintage neck and all the Standard/Special/V-Shaped American options. Also they should add the full range of Custom Shop P/Us they sell ('69s, 57/62s, 54's, etc.) and you've got a great selection without having to buy all the parts and build.

I'm sure if its successful more options will arrive. (For the true "builders" it won't make a difference, but for those that want real Fenders it seems like a cool idea)

Re: Fender Designer

I think its cool that they are offering it...I mean Strats are like the most options oriented guitar out there. Definitely like that Fender is going that route; however, why so few of options? I would've liked to have seen more choices–especially for the price. And the colors were very few and they didn't offer a natural finish. And more wood choices on the body...ok I'll stop complaining. lol

Re: Fender Designer

I want this, but for non-MIA product to bring the prices waaaaaaaaay down.

Re: Fender Designer

Interesting and fun for sure. Little pricey though compared to say USACG or Warmoth. If you want a Fender-style customized to your liking direct from Fender, this is worth it I guess rather than wheeling and dealing guitars and parts later. But if you want a more custom guitar, you can do better elsewhere.

I would agree–I just completed a Semi-Hollow Custom Strat that came in just under $1,200.

Re: Fender Designer

Hell, they want $1750 for my sunburst Tele - built with their pickups, but without the 4way wiring ( another thing they should add - their standard circuits ) - that I'm pretty sure I have less than $600 in.

Re: Fender Designer

That would require them to change up their routs, or offer a swimming pool. This is just them offering you the ability to mix up pre-existing parts rather than buying the parts second hand. Maybe later they'll expand into more customization.

Yeah, I think this is what they are doing...maybe testing the waters to see the response before going all out customization.

Re: Fender Designer

Sure, but at the moment their 'customizations' amount to "Buy this model, and these pickups to put in it". There's not really anything custom about it.

This is true. For the price I'd say built it your own or buy the parts yourself and pay someone to set it up for you–alot cheaper and you have unlimited options.
