Fender Excelsior Mods

Re: Fender Excelsior Mods

It could be but you're talking about gutting the entire amp and starting with an empty chassis.

You'd be better off just getting a 5E9 kit or building one form scratch.

Good Grief.
How long has the OP owned the amp.?
Are you just wanting to have the option of Trem when you play, or are you actually wanting a 5E9A trem circuit.?
As mentioned above, you are probably starting with the wrong phase inverter and lacking at least 1 triode. Throw in the PCB of your Excelsior, and you would no doubt be looking at a gut job (unless, maybe, you are REAL good).
I have heard lots of compliments about your amp, especially after a new speaker.
Does the Excelsior trem sound kind of Weak/Cheap to you.?
best

Re: Fender Excelsior Mods

I think the only two mods it needs are a pot in place of the lo/hi switch and a better speaker.

Here's a couple popular mods for the lo/hi switch being sold on Ebay.

If I buy one eventually, I'll probably drop one of these Eminence Patriot Commonwealth speakers in it.

Re: Fender Excelsior Mods

Three mods: Tone knob, better speaker, and they really should've sent that amp with a footswitch for the trem... so yeah, a footswitch for the trem.

Then it's the perfect little modern mass-produced Chinese recreation of our own culture being sold back to us. I mean retro all-tube guitar combo.
