Fender Hot Rod Deville

Re: Fender Hot Rod Deville

I have the 4x10 version. That sucker is LOUD. Only bad thing is the reverb isnt switchable. A trick to make it more versatile: Get a two chan distortion and front end the clean chan with it. If you want metal or thrash, it's there. The amp drive/more drive sounds good too, just not heavy enough for the darker, heavier stuff. I run all my effects through the loop, and it is quiet. Check out some links I have for the Deville:

that's a pretty wild green strat.... i assume it's a 1988-89 era American strat..... i remember a metallic green finnish back then that i loved...

I use the J&H on the clean side of the Fender. It gives me a killer "all-purpose" dirty sound. Kick in the second "Hyde" switch and it gives a killer lead tone. Either side of the J&H is awesome alone. It more or less makes my Fender into a five chanel amp. Best $130 spent ever! The most musical distortion I have tried in my 30 years of impersonating a guitarist.

The sherwood green am strat is a 2003 I picked up for $400 bones. Some idiot replaced the original pup/guard with a cheap-o Mighty Mite preloaded one. I use it as a back-up and it really doesnt sound too bad, but some day I'm going to restore it.

I love the Hotrods for that clean tone. I pedal-ize everything else so the OD channel never gets used so I don't care.

I highly recommend replacing the stock (worthless) Groove Tubes with Svet 6L6GC Winged C's, more sweetness, warmth and headroom. The Groove Tubes sound cold and brittle and they break up a lot lower on the master vol.
